Type of coolant question?

I have a 2009 Toyota corolla. I didn't know that toyotas use a special pink/red coolant, so I put in regular peak universal green coolant. I am planning to take out a faulty thermostat stuck closed. I just put the thermo in about 3 months ago. I heard using the wrong coolant can weaken corrosion inhibitors, wondering if thats the cause of thermostat going bad. Should I flush the system, put the new thermostat in, then put the pink coolant in or is green fine? Been having overheating problems. Thanks.

I would replace the coolant but I wouldn't flush the system and put in the correct one to be safe. I would also put in the new thermostat as well.

Ok, thank you. I just thought flushing the system was the way to get all the green coolant out right? Or how do you think I should do it.

Just drain the old fluid out and then put in the correct one in. I've seen people flush coolants but I wouldn't do it because you said you have overheating problems.

Ohh okay thank you. I appreciate your help. I'll give it a go.
