Will transmission fluid work as an undercoating fluid?

Hey Scotty.  Any downsides to using transmission fluid for undercoating a vehicle?  I realize its not great for the environment but i typically use less than 1 quart for my vehicle and then drive over a dusty road.  It seems to stick pretty well.  Any other issues like damage to electronics etc?  I'm in eastern Canada with salt covered roads 6+ months per year so you really need to undercoat if you plan on keeping a vehicle.  Main reason i ask is i'm out of "dripless" undercoating fluid and I have a couple quarts of transmission fluid in my garage left over from a previous vehicle.  THanks!

Well realize it's extremely thin oil and it generally won't cling on for all that long. It's made for lubricating. Not for coding rusting steel. You better off getting WD-40 spray that's made for that. They have a special body spray

No there shouldn't be any issues.  As Scotty says, it won't last that long.

I know some people use chainsaw bar oil.

If you want something that will really stick and last years, look up cosmoline. The military has used it about 150 years to protect all kinds of things against hard salt water. I got my cars frames coated with it, so far so good.
