I am looking for a used Lexus and I found a 2007 Lexus IS 250 2.4L V6 automatic transmission, 173,000 miles for $6,459. Is that a good price or no? If so, is there any major problems I should look for?
That’s an awesome price, you can’t touch this car for less than $11,000
Pay a mechanic $100 bucks to look it over, check all fluids, suspension, full engine
scan, all modules, etc. This car has a ton of life left, just want to make sure
your not mislead, which happens everyday in the used car business.
If you would be so kind and give us an update once and if finalized.
Thank you! I’ll go check it out Monday and see how it goes. Hopefully I’m not being misled. Looks like a great car!
Seems like an ok deal. But after you check it out, don't put any money down and bring it to a mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. If it is in good shape, haggle the price and buy it. If it isn't, don't buy it. If the guy doesn't let you do it, walk away. It may seem like a good deal but that is some miles so make sure to haggle I'd say start at just around 4500. But yes, they definetly are good cars.
The most common issue for the 2007 model year (and many other Lexus products from the time) is Dashboard Melting.

As far as the engine goes, look for carbon buildup
Oh thank you! I didn’t know that the melting dashboard is a problem, especially from Lexus. I’ll take that into consideration.
Your welcome! Keep in mind most of them were reported in California, Texas, Florida, Australia etc. so if your in Boston or Seattle then I don't think it would be an issue. It should be pretty obvious if its melting or not because owners with the issue describe it as leaving residue on their hands and feeling sticky.
Funny thing is, I do live in California. Also, I checked and my dad has a 2010 Camry (which according to research was affected) but I don’t seem to recall any melting. I’ll check when I’ll see the car!
The dashboard was a recall on Toyota Products, in the summer heat they become extremely sticky. I do believe that recall would not be honored at this point in time.
I would have it checked out. If it passes mechanical, I'd go $5000, $5500 if you absolutely love it.
Also, make sure it is a clean title.
