[Solved] Lexus is250 (2008-2012) or toyota corolla 2014

So I've been looking and researching cars for half a year now and I really want a reliable car, but don't want to lose everything on the ride quality and luxury side so I was leaning towards lexus is250 because I found one for 7900 euro 38k miles 2012 and 2008 with 78k miles for 5900 euros and my colleague just told me to not buy a lexus because that's going to be a problem for me note that he himself drives a toyota avenis 2011 or newer.

Also I've been looking at toyota corolla 2014 and I had driven one for a handful of times and hey it's pretty fine, but the main reason I'm scared about these is the CVT automatic trans... can't find much on the internet if these CVT's on 2014 corollas are bad.

Ultimately I prefer reliability more than luxury, but I can feel it I want the lexus quite more than a Corolla, but if someone with enough competence would say that nah you're wasting money on a lexus and better of with corolla then I would just go for Corolla.

I do care for my cars, I do oil changes, belts, brake pads and stuff myself so if I had to work on a lexus a lil bit more I would say yes.

If you have any other cars to offer please do.

Idk what your colleague said to you, maybe he has something against lexus, but they are super reliable.

Get the lexus.

And the CVT in the corolla is fine. 6

Both cars are excellent cars. If you like the ride of Lexus, go for it. The parts are more expensive but it is still a Toyota product and they do not go bad if you take care of them. With that said, if you can choose the Lexus which is NOT all wheel drive (AWD), it can be a better choice compared to AWD version due to the future cost, but again the cars you consider are not high mileage and if a mechanic gives you ok on them, they shoould be fine. Good luck.

Just saw your thread hope this helps

Coming from a 2005 corolla manual to 2013 lexus es350

well my advice if you want to save money go with corolla

but if you want power, highest quality, comfort go with lexus

Don’t worry about reliability both are great cars

Biggest expense on my corolla when i bough it i had clutch slipping at 170k kms paid 700CAD for replacement  excedy clutch

on my recently bought lexus at 100k kms passenger strut started leaking, gotta change both costs 1000$,

now why i said expensive ofcourse its  luxry vehicle it will be expensive to maintain

example
tires 500 vs 1000

battery 140 vs 200

brakes job 150 vs 230 excluding parts

oil change 80 vs 130

these things sometimes hurt a little but when you sit in your lexus press the gas , you are on cloud 9

Automatic transmission is more convenient, than a manual transmission ......... but again, it depends on personal preferences.

What about the corollas with CVTs? should I shy away from an automatic corolla and look for manual. Not that I mind driving manual but they seem to go at least 1-1,5 k euros more in my area.

They are ok, but definitely not as good as manual in a long run (I mean more than 200k miles), I think based on your situation, the CVT of corolla should be fine for you too if you do not drive it hard all the time.

just get a camry for maximum longevity with cheapest aftermarket. down the road parts for lexus are gona cost a little more

As far as CVTs go, the Corolla's is the best out there.
