Hey Scotty!
I have been watching a lot of your videos and it has been helping me get to know a lot about cars. I am about to start my first job at a powerplant 50km away from the city and I would have to get my first car. World of firsts! I am still relatively new to cars since my whole family has always used public transit. I know you swear by the old Toyotas and Hondas, so should I go for one that has more than 200k miles on it? It also gets very cold around here, about -40 degrees C. So I was wondering if that would be an issue. I would just use the car to go to and from work. I don't need anything flashy or fun. Just a good old reliable car that gives me good gas mileage. I have also been seeing a lot of Ford Focuses, Nissan Altimas, and Mazdas at my budget. What would you recommend me to get? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I just bought a 2008 Mazda 3 Sport Hatchback with 155,000 miles for $2500. The heater gets really hot even with temperatures outside getting close to zero degree Celsius these days. I asked about the car a few days ago here. Scotty replied back saying this one can last long so long as I take care of it. I got an auto but the transmission is in great shape. It's got superficial rust but no engine lights, nothing. On top of that the owner drove about an hour just to meet me halfway! (This was just my luck.) But again, I waited patiently for about three weeks and talked to about 100 car owners on Facebook Marketplace looking for a decent deal with my $2700 budget.
Thanks for the info. I am looking at some postings, but it seems that all the cars are above 200k km, which is probably when all the issues start appearing haha.
1973 Plymouth Valiant, obviously

Look for older Corolla or Civic.
I was actually looking at an older 2007 Honda Civic. Bit worried as it had 240k km on the odometer on it. But the owner said that his wife owned it for 3 years and apart from the oil change, they didn't have to do any more work on it.
Not a good model year for that Honda. Keep looking. Consider Camry as well.
My son is selling his 2007 Yaris sedan. 132,000 miles. He is the second owner. Surprisingly roomy for a small car. very reliable and great mpg. If you're near Cumberland Md it's a car I definitely would buy. He has owned for 4 years but wanted something bigger, his wife bought a new Forester and he now drives her 2017 Elantra. $4,000 and it's yours!
Thank you for the offer, and I probably would have taken up the offer, had I not been living in Canada haha. I am pretty sure there is another student like me who is willing to take you upon the offer around there. Best of luck!
