Hey scotty I was wondering what the difference between a regular valve spring and a performance valve spring and why is it necessary to change them when installing a different size cam, thank you.

Generally speaking...
High performance engines are for sport (racing, etc.). Sports cars are pushed harder , so the engines experience more stress, and they need higher spec parts. A regular consumer car would just break down right away.
high performance = fast
when the camshaft spins incredibly fast, thevalves can't open and shut fast enough. Stiffer springs help with this. Of course this also increases wear. Race cams are more aggressive ("hot") which increases the strain as well. Horses for courses.
