Volkswagen Jetta A Good Car?

Topic starter

I'm thinking of purchasing a new jetta with the 1.4l turbo and 8 speed auto. I've heard that with these German cars you just need to keep up with the maintenance well and they will run forever. Is this true? I'm trying to decide between a corolla and a jetta and the jetta seems to be the better option so far.

Thanks

Real world experience (and Car Complaints) indicates this is not true.

No. They are awful, badly made cars. You will regret buying one pretty quickly. Run away.

Corolla will be much more reliable and last longer. The Jetta is probably good for around 100K-150K, will have a more premium feel and will be a far more fun car to drive.

So if you want something you can keep up with the maintenance on so it will run forever, that is the Corolla, not the Jetta. If you care more about the driving experience and can live with the lower life, go with the Jetta.

"Premium feel" 😆 I think it's more of a cheap, plasticy, "I'm afraid I might break this" kind of feel.

lol the last-gen Jetta felt worse than a 2017 Corolla I once drove. Corolla feels more premium in terms of the interior quality and the whole construction itself. The Jetta does have better tech but it will probably break under warranty.

They don't hold up over time. Particularly prone to expensive electrical problems.

Jettas are decent with the TDI, but otherwise no. They have all kinds of problems and ever since 2011 the quality of the Jetta took a steep nosedive when they started building them in Mexico.

Thanks for letting me know guys, will stick to corolla
