Hi Scottie,
Hope this is the correct place to ask this question. I watch many of your youtube videos and appreciate all the advice you share. My daughter will be getting her drivers license in about 6 months. I am going to give her my old honda CRV. I figure it is a nice, little, easy to drive, reliable, and safe vehicle for her first car.
Anyway, that means that I need to find something for me in the next 6 months or so. I want whatever I get to be a stick shift, because I want to teach her how to drive a stick, too many people don’t know how to do that these days, and I personally like driving a stick shift better. Good reliable options are limited. I have narrowed my search down to a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic, although I am open to other suggestions. Are there any certain years or engine combinations I should avoid? I know to avoid the 1.5 liter turbo Honda earth dreams engine. I am a mechanical engineer and have a good understanding of cars in general, I can and will do most maintenance and repairs myself. Thanks in advance for any information you provide, I really appreciate it.
Eric
There’s a dedicated thread on this topic -
Since you want a manual, I’d pick either one, after a professional mechanic checks out the car.
Thank you, I will review that thread. Yes, I will have a professional mechanic check out prior to purchasing. Any further comments are greatly appreciated.
I think 2011-2016 are the best years for the manual Corolla, the Civic is also a good choice, 2017+ 2.0, 2010-2011...
