I think telsa might go down because i don't see any tesla stores so far. At least in my area.
You can see lately that Subaru Forester/Crosstrek sales are very high and are rated highly. Mazda SUVs are also on the rise so they seem to be doing well.
As for what @mod_man said, the companies he listed are definitely lower in quality, but I don't think Ford would "go under" because no matter the quality they are still selling the F-series in large numbers and that is what they are still here. I'm sure he will also agree with that.
I haven't seen a Tesla in a while, and I'm in California. I'm sure they won't "go under" but Elon has got a handful both with the space disasters and the cybertruck glass breaking failure. Quality wise they are way past "going under" but honestly they will still be around a while because everyone I talk to doesn't know a thing about cars and wants a Tesla.
Nissan needs to step up its game. They used to sell well a few years ago because of their CVT transmissions and nice interiors. They got good fuel economy and looked premium. Now those same vehicles have deteriorating interiors and failing transmissions.
Honda is selling well their cars are much more premium than 10 15 years ago but quality wise I personally am dissapointed with all the problems that they have been having in the last 5 years they definitely don't live up to their Toyota rivaling reliability reputation.
@Kerem I do agree with you on Ford not going under. That's why I listed what I'd LIKE to see, versus what will probably happen. Fleet sales will keep Ford alive until the Super Dutys start having issues.
Competition from traditional car companies could very well drive Tesla down, particularly since Musk's company depends on using the carbon credit scheme to extract funds from the other companies. (Tesla doesn't make any money from the cars themselves.) So there will be more competition from long-established players as well as less opportunity to mulct funds from them.
I imagine Mitsubishi will pull out of the car market in North America soon.
The ones on the way out are Alpha Romeo, Fiat, and Mitsubishi.
The Fiat brand could get axed, but the Stellantis conglomerate is pretty huge.
Oh, add to my list above Smart Fortwo which Daimler owns.
Tesla will probably go under and Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Mitsubishi will probably pull out of North America. Also FCA may decide to discontinue the Chrysler brand and just stick to Dodge and Jeep.
There is a Tesla dealership in my city. I see a lot of them driving around.
A few years ago you pretty much couldn't get a Roadster. They would sell out instantly, and the waiting list was really long. Demand was so high, that used Teslas were fetching prices higher than a new one because people didn't want to wait. I don't know if it's still like that.
Kia is not doing so well. Slowly sinking.
I don’t think Dodge will stay around the cancellation of the SRT line of vehicles and Chrysler will become a line of French and Italian cars, which become the financial source of many PHDs for children of car mechanics
I don’t think Tesla is going down. They have magic to them, a popular following, and a cult following. Even with fit and finish problems, windows randomly shattering, and roof panels flying off, people still buy their cars. The allure of having a Tesla is just too much for them to go down.
For now. But soon there will be more alluring and magical electrical cars.
Once Toyota gets their lineup of EV’s, I think that will give Tesla a run for their money. The eTNGA platform looks very promising.
Toyota just doesn't have the brand power of a 'cool' company like Tesla, and they never will.
Plenty of room for both in the market.
Dodge and Chrysler will still be around. Methinks a private equity company will buy it out.
As for Fiat, they tried to enter the market. But it didn’t seem to catch.
The Alfa Romeo brand my have some allure, especially with that triangle grill. Crappy cars, but crappy cars still sell. Fir one reason or another.
Stellantis won't sell Dodge as long as people keep buying the trucks. Chrysler maybe.
Companies I would like to see go under would be:
1. Ford
2. GM
3. Chrysler
4. Hyundai/Kia
Companies I would like to see do well:
1. Toyota/Lexus
2. Honda/Acura
3. BMW
4. Porsche
Most likely alone in my opinions, but US manufacturers are a hot mess and they've had enough time to figure out their issues. Yet they still charge premium prices for junk. Time for them to go.
I also think many of the EV startups will fail or be absorbed. It’s relatively easy to design EV’s. It’s harder to put them together en masse at an affordable price. Tesla is the unicorn.
with all the issues they're having with EV's, I think designing them is very much NOT easy. It's still a fledgling technology.
Designing is easy relative to producing them. But yes, designing is hard.
