Winter tread

Hey Scotty,

I was wondering if there any way to prep your tires for winter? I live in Southern Colorado so the winters aren’t extremely bad but I do have a FWD car and sometimes it gets a little wobbly in the snow. I don’t want to buy winter tires if I don’t have to, thanks!

Be sure to have the summer air in your tires changed for winter air. (It's probably most convenient to have this done during scheduled service of your muffler bearings.)

Now if you're dealing with serious snow and ice conditions really you need winter tires. It's not just the tread pattern, winter tires are made with rubber compounds that retain flexibility and grip under very cold conditions and can even grip on ice. Just be sure to fill them with winter air!

all season radials will be fine. just drive slow and carefully and apply the brakes gingerly

This is a bad joke that doesn't even approach being funny.  How can colder, drier winter air be heavier than warmer humid summer air?  Seriously?

I probably should have added a smiley but thought the reference to muffler bearings would be the tipoff.

What's next, a left handed tire iron?  Good one Chuck.
