When working on vehicles, do you leave a tool or something else somewhere else than where it’s supposed to belong such as a tool box?
All the time. I consider myself lucky if my tools don't fall into the black hole lurking underneath the engine compartment never to be seen again.
I live on a steep hill, so anything that's round and falls without me noticing ends up a few blocks away. {black}:resent:
Whoever lives at the bottom of the hill probably finds a lot of booty.
Nope. Never. Well, maybe once. Okay, if you count THAT time, could be a few missing tools. Maybe a lot. So Chuck has a black hole too... Must be a lot of sockets in some alternate universe. {black}:nonoise:
{black}:nonoise: {black}:laughingoutloud: I might as well do an inspection in Chuck's vehicles and see what tools went in the black hole.
Absolutely NEVER. And the reason for that is my Father.
Whenever he would work on cars, he would always wind up leaving a wrench/hammer/etc. under the hood. This led to closing the hood and...yeah...damage ensued.
So from the time I was a kid I would go over his mental checklist when he finished working, check all the crevices for screwdrivers, etc. before closing up.
As an adult, I have absolute OCD about my tools. A place for everything and everything in its place.
You’d get along great with James May!
Lol indeed we have a lot in common!
Oh wow yes. I was changing my tie rods and sway bar links, I spent as much time running to the store to buy some random tool that I know I have, as I spent actually working. On the bright side, I now have multiple of certain tools, now that I am finished of course.
Glad I live close to several places to buy tools.
I had all my tools laid out on the bench for a particular job and the next day, I couldn't find my Channel Lock pliers. I knew I had put them on the bench. I tore apart the garage looking for them. Still couldn't find them. When I asked my wife about them (last resort) she told me she borrowed them for as few minutes and put them back on the work bench. When I went to look for them again, I found them, they were about six inches away from where I left them. Pathetic!
No, I make it a habit to know where all my tools are while working on my cars - just something I’ve developed from the beginning as I didn’t want to be that guy that left a tool under his engine bay (had seen this before, unfortunately). I spend time organizing everything before performing a job. Then again, I do this in my garage on my time and I mainly do smaller jobs (oil change, replacing window door regulator, etc), so I can take the extra time and be organized.
he's right about cameras being a terrific memory aid. I use my constantly.
Like in that film Memento 😆
