| Welcome new member. Sounds like you’ve thought it through and made a good choice. Solid truck, most of which were well cared for. Only thing I can think of would be undercarriage rust, depending what part of the country it lived it’s life. Otherwise, if it passes a thorough PPI, you should be good to go. | |||||

| If you would get a Volvo at an older age like 2009 or 2011 or so with a naturally aspirated 3.2L I6 engine in it, I wouldn't think it would be a bad idea. The one you're looking at right now could have a lot of problems for the fact it has a small turbocharged 4 cylinder in that huge SUV, that engine could wear out quick! You're better off with the Lexus my friend. Also be aware about having the starter break too if you're gonna get that particular Lexus as well. If the starter breaks, it can be a real pain to get it out and the intake manifold has to be taken out in order for it to be replaced easily. But other than it, those V8 engines can go for a long time as long as they're well taken care of. Between the Volvo and the Lexus, get the Lexus! It's better to have a big SUV with a V8 than a small turbocharged 4 cylinder in it that would wear out like crazy if something goes bad or whatever. | |||||

| I found this information on this site: Despite the fact that the new engine has nothing similar with the 2UZ-FE, they have joint problems. The water pump is still a source of leaks and issues. It has a short life - 60,000 miles (100,000 km), and it's gone. Sometimes the hydraulic chain tensioner fails, loosening the timing chain tension. In the early years of production, the engine was equipped with too thin unreliable valve springs. Some owners complain about increased oil consumption - up to 0.5 liters per 1000 miles. But in the rest, the 1UR-FE engine has excellent longevity and durability, almost the same as the 2UZ-FE. Don't know enough to tell you whether the 2UZ was the better engine though. | |||||

| What does your owner's manual say? Does it say "recommends" premium gas, or does it say "requires" premium gas? Most modern cars will adjust to the gas you put in them. My 1997 model is supposed to use premium gas but will run on anything you put in it, with less power if regular is used. (You can feel the difference but it won't damage anything.) In any case, to preserve your warranty follow the manufacturer's instructions. | |||||

| Did you ever get this figured out and fixed? I have the exact same sound under the same circumstances on a 2019 GX with 26k miles. Started around the 22k mark. Dealer said cannot reproduce. Of course, when I took it in that day, it wasn't happening. | |||||

| Sure sounds like that but get your phone make a video of it shifting poorly show it to him say it's not working right and you want it fixed. If necessary contact actual Japanese not the scumbags at the dealers because the deal is are just American selling stuff and they don't give one rats ass about anything except making money | |||||
| Answer to: Should I change the tranny fluid in my 2012 Lexus GX460? | 12Relevance | 5 years ago | nlord | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Check with Lexus, they likely have tons of records. My Gx470 2008 had records of tranny fluid changes along with everything else. There is a website you can get on, lexus owners I think, that will have the records. I did a full "exchange" on mine at about 140k with amsoil fuel efficient, it would almost trick you into thinking it was a cvt it shifts so smooth. | |||||

| It's worth it if you want the reliability. The only negative that I see is average mpg and the third row seating. Whenever I think of full-size SUVS- I think of third row seating leg room. I've been in the third row seating in both the GX and LX and they both lack legroom for adults in the third row. I would look into it- just have a mechanic look it over and test drive the vehicle to make sure that it rides ok. | |||||

| They are great cars but realize that being a V8 and luxury, when things break, you have to pay top dollar for parts and labor. | |||||
