| No, that's nonsense. well at 26 years and 380k, that's probably what it needs. No amount of cleaning will erase wear and tear. I doubt you made back the money you spend on the products. I don't think that stuff is meant to be used long term. It's probably pretty harsh. | |||||

| Catalytic converter "cleaner" almost never works. Changing gas sometimes, per Scotty, has been known to help but it has nothing to do with octane. In both cases it would only make a difference if the converter is just barely on the edge of poor efficiency. If a converter is in really poor shape replacement is the only fix. Have you checked the other possible causes of the P0420 code aside from the converter itself? If your engine is running too rich that should show up in your fuel trims. | |||||

| I went to an auto parts store and the guy who was processing my catalytic converter cleaner for my 99 es300 (over 380,000 miles) suggested to use 91 octane instead of a combo of 87 gas and the catalytic converter cleaner. He claims it would clean the cat similarly or better than using 87 gas (which is what my car requires) and the cleaner combined. Is he correct? Im doubting his claim as he claims he has 2 people that use 91 for their old cars with high mileage, with one being over 200k. For context, I use cat cleaner as I keep getting PO420 codes and I rather not spend money to buy a new cat. While its an emissions code, Im concerned it might mean my engine is burning too rich (Ive put my finger on the outer exhaust and did notice some black crud). I've been using cataclean for a few months and it seemed to have improve my engine idling, my car runs more smooth, and I am getting slightly better fuel economy (Yes i know its not a lot especially for this car but if its inexpensive then why not?). I also use cataclean to clean my piston heads, fuel injectors, O2 and the cat (obviously). Is he correct? | |||||

| This kind of question has been asked many times here, you might want to use the site search function. The short answer is your engine will make less power with 87 octane but it is otherwise safe to use since it meets your car's minimum requirements. | |||||

| I have a 2025 Acura RDX ASPEC. Regarding Fuel, the gas tank lid says the recommended octane is 91, minimum 87. It is a new car and I have not filled up yet and I want to make sure my car runs well. I did see the vids about premium gasoline vs regular. However, since I will be filling up for the first time, which gas do I use? Do, I put the 91 in or do I do away with that and use the 87? | |||||

| I just bought a 2014 frs with the 2.0. The previous owner used 91 or 93 octane, everywhere Ive read has said its needed ad not just a suggestion. So do I really need to be using the more expensive fuel? I currently fill with 7.5 gallon of 93 and the rest with 87, this gives an average of 91. lol | |||||

| Hello Scotty my name is robert. I have a red 97 Celica GT convertible just like your 99 looks exactly the same. I was just curious what is the recommended octane rating for this vehicle? 87 89 91? Also you saye parts are easy to come by but parts for the convertible top like the 3 pivoting arm frame sections are not so easy, any suggestions? | Hello. I am purchasing a Lexus IS350 F Sport 2021 AWD. 3.5L V6. I would like to know if I can get away with running 87 octane gas. I have been running my current Lexus IS250 2008 with 87 which has a V6 and it has been fine other than a few past events (rebuilt trans and new catalytic due to sensor issues which may have been relative to gas or jus the bad year which I’ve been told is one of the worst years for the IS with maintenance plus it was in minor accidents )…I am getting such mixed answers on this it’s crazy. One mechanic told me it’s fine, a trans mechanic told me run 89 minimum, and another told me only 91. I don’t know who to believe so Scotty or someone in the Kilmer network please let me know prior to this big purchase tomorrow ! Really appreciate it. | |||||

| OIC. The official Type R can use 87, but 91 is recommended. Double check the manuals, because maybe some models are different and require 91. And if you want the best performances on your CivicR, 91 octane is the route to go. Just make sure the 88 doesn’t use more than 10% alcohol, if you want to use 88. For most purposes 87 should be fine, unless you know you want performance than go to 91. (Assuming your knock sensors and all your tuning is done correctly for the CivicR to take advantage of the 91x otherwise it is just a waste of money). | |||||

| No.. fuel octane rating has nothing to do with valve lash and the period it goes before adjustment is needed. The miles on the engine and age are the main factor overall. | |||||
