| Corolla timing cover and chain replacement! | 23Relevance | 2 years ago | Joeo | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, I have a 13 Corolla auto with nearly 270 K. My mechanic noted that the timing cover is leaking and suggested to have it done in the near future. They added to go ahead and replace the timing chain and tensioner at the same time. They said it will be costly mainly due to the labor as the engine may need to be removed to do so. Any feedback and such would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. | |||||
| 2011 Hyundai Tucson timing chain. | 23Relevance | 4 years ago | slam922 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I have a 2011 Hyundai Tucson with 154,000+ miles. I've taken good care of it. Oil changes, coolant flushes and filters. Run great and never loses oil. I'm going to have the spark plugs and coil packs replaced soon (they are the originals). My question is do I really need to consider having the timing chain replaced? There is no rattle or any weird vibrations. I did see your video about timing chains and belts a while back. My inclination tells me not to replace it. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Thanks. | |||||

| Hey Scotty & community, I have a 2005 Mazda MPV, automatic 3 liter V6 (Ford Duratec 30) with 200,000 miles.I'm replacing my timing cover gaskets, so while I'm in there I'm planning to replace the timing chain tensioners as preventative maintenance. I found a user manual online which says to torque them to 18 foot pounds, but no mention of thread locker. When I reinstall the bolts holding them in, should I put thread locker on the bolts or not? | |||||

| You have a timing chain. I wouldn't look at replacing it unless you have leaks in the timing cover or other issues that would cause you to pull the cover off and be in there already. If you want to do it, find an independent shop for sure. The job can be done typically for around $1500-$2000 as you'll want to replace the tensioner while you are there. If you take it to a BMW dealer, no joke, you're looking at $8000 -$10000 because they'll want to pull the motor out to get at it easier. | |||||

| ... which often occured even during the warranty. The main reason - the structural defects causing piston rings seizure. "There were problems with the engines until 2001, but then they were fixed and now everything is all right" - such straightforward misinformation often used by owners who need to resell cars with these ill-fated engines. In fact, repeated Toyota's attempts to resolve the problem only by installation of a new modifications of the rings were absolutely useless. Noticeable result was obtained after major upgrade in the mid-2005, when the new p ... | |||||

| Hi Scotty, I have a 2013 Corolla LE with approx 260 K. My mechanic noticed some oil seepage around the timing cover. They said it appears minor, but eventually will need replacement. They added that they should replace the timing chain and tensioner at the same time. I haven't heard of a timing chain and tensioner replaced often. Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated ? By the way, car is running fine. No weird engine sounds or rattles. Typicallly close to a quart low every 1500 to 2000 miles. Thanks | |||||

| ... RPM reading. I fear that this indicates timing chain and gear wear. The truck has 175,000 miles on it. Is this something that indicates I need to replace the cam timing system? I'm retired and on a very low fixed income and about to turn 80 years old. I have the knowledge to do the job, but my body is definitely not what it used to be. So, do I continue to drive it like it is, or should I dive into the engine? Thanks for the advice. | |||||

| Hey Scotty, I have a 2006 Honda Accord with a 2.4 L 4 cylinder with an automatic transmission. The vehicle has 256k miles and It's leaking out from the timing cover seal and it looks pretty bad. The car runs great but the previous owner said he had it replaced but I can't find any record of it. Should I just replace the timing chain and seal or just the seal itself? Also my car has duel climate control and I believe my blend door actuator may be bad. One side blows out hot while the other is luke warm. I've known this for a little while and made at tempo ... | |||||

| ... or two on a cam and you are in supreme danger of catastrophically destroying your motor. As of this second. your repair could be fixed by any decent mechanic for under half of what you were quoted, and i guarantee an entire timing set could be obtained for that for under $200. The unfortunate truth about this job is this, and only this: If you arent doing the repair yourself, the labor involved is going to be 80% or more of the bill(and this is the perfect job to give you a real life example of a dollar part, with a grand of labor, and will persuade your bu ... | |||||
