| 2017 GMC Sierra Leaf Spring Clunk | 41Relevance | 5 years ago | 412Nick | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Scotty, I have a 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500. 5.3L, 4WD. 42k miles. The rear suspension/leaf springs make a “clunking” noise when turning at low speeds (forward and reverse). There are no adverse handling or towing affects. All mounting hardware is tight and there is no corrosion. I’ve read online, some owners believe it’s the rubber isolator pads that sit between the leafs somehow fail, causing the noise. Visual inspection shows no cracking, dry rot or shifting pads. This is the second time this issue has occurred. The issue was “resolved” under warranty by the dealer (25k miles) by replacing the both leaf spring packs and hardware and shackles. The 3year/36k bumper to bumper warranty is up. I’m not sure if it’ll be covered if I take to another dealer. Any thoughts on fix? There are no mechanical failures nor performance issues, it’s just annoying. Maybe poor quality control during the leaf pack manufacturing. V/r Nick | |||||
| Ford Focus Electric vs Nissan Leaf | 37Relevance | 4 years ago | DevinKenyon | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Good day Scotty and the community. I'm on the search for a used electric car because of the astronomical prices that i pay to fuel my car. I'm looking at either a 2013 nissan leaf with about 60,000 miles on it, or a 2014 Ford Focus Electric with about 71,000 miles on it. Out of these two, which is the better buy? I'm leaning more towards the leaf. | |||||

| Yeah I definitely understand the concept of the single drive setup (i own a Prius Prime right now but want to go all electric as my next car) and I appreciate the explanation but I know that nissan CVTs are notorious for problems and premature failure and wasn't sure if due to nissan building their own transmissions from JATCO if the leaf eCVT suffers the same fate as its gas driven CVT counterparts | |||||

| Scotty, what is your opinion on a nissan leaf? I know the newer ones are built better and they use an eCVT but do you think they have better CVT transmissions than other nissan cars? | |||||

| Thank you both for your opinions/statements. My family has had nissans in the past (Sentras, a Stanza, Infiniti I30s, G35, a 370Z) and all but the I30s were manual transmission. My mother and brother were the nissan people and preferred them (manual transmissions especially ) over anything. I had a bad experience when I owned my 2006 Altima years ago because I had it as my college and work commuter but the transmission started going at 65,000 miles. It wouldn't shift into 4th gear (it was a JATCO 4 speed auto). After that I owned nothing but manuals; excludi ... | |||||

| That's news to me, unless they used a suspension I'm not familiar with, they shouldn't have leaf springs in the front end. Old 1940s Jeeps had those, not a modern car. Front leaf springs are very rough riding, that's definitely not what you would expect from a modern truck. The dealership probably doesn’t know what they're talking about, or they're just trying to game with you. | |||||

| Don't buy the leaf, tesla is far better, the leaf is known for poor thermal management. I remember my dad deciding between a Focus Electric and a leaf, he picked the Ford for being cheaper and having better thermal management and he may soon get a Tesla Model 3 for better range. | |||||
| Answer to: Would Nissan prevail w/o Renault? | 33Relevance | 5 years ago | Dan | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Nope. Renault is what keeps nissan alive. nissan is able to leach of Renault (R-N-M ALLIANCE), get modern somewhat reliable engines, get access to good Diesel engines for Europe and the sheer power of Renault’s dealer network. The thing that makes nissan terrible is the CVTs that they design by them selfs under their Jatco division. nissan would not be better off without Renault, as Renault are their only hopes of survival especially when we are talking about car electrification. Renault was amoung the first to produce electric cars, starting with the ... | |||||

| Hey Scotty, I hope you can get to this within the next couple of days. So, I bought a 2020 nissan Rogue around this time last year at BENTON nissan of BESSEMER, AL. When I bought it, it had a little over 32000 miles on it. It costed roughly 22000 dollars after I signed the paperwork. It really wasn't the car I wanted, I originally went to purchase the 2018 Toyota RAV4 that they had because I wanted something reliable. But because of my credit situation at the time, they would only approve the Rogue. I decided to give it a chance, since I really needed a ... | |||||

| ... Issues in first generation were later addressed especially by second generation. The nissan RWD platforms are generally better in terms of reliability than the FWD platforms. That being said I would still avoid the model years 2020-newer since they moved to the 9-speed transmission (the previous 7-speed is less complex and and why mess with something that has already working and had been refined?). I also would avoid the first year (2016), and look for 2017-2019 (in general the newer the better that your budget allows). For list of issues over the years ... | |||||
