| I have a lexus es350 how reliable is the u660e transmission? I'm hearing mixed reviews, also hard shifts from a cold start until it warms up. Any advice would be appreciated my car has 240k miles I've had the fluid changed as well. The car runs great aside from those issues. | |||||

| Just out of curiosity, if that transmission is having issues on the Camry, then wouldn't it have similar issues if it's on a heavier car? | |||||
| 2008 Toyota Avalon ATF | 17Relevance | 5 years ago | Jeremy1992 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Scotty, I do my own maintenance and repairs on my vehicles but am not familiar with Toyotas. My girlfriend has a 2008 Avalon with the u660e trans. She has 85k miles and from what I can find, Toyota says not to ever change the WS fluid, but this is contrary to what I was taught and what my other vehicles manuals call for. She needs the car to last another 5-6 years minimum. What is your recommendation? Thanks! | |||||

| I assume this is non-hybrid and non F-sport. If so, it has the true and tried 6-speed transmission u660e also used in the Toyota Camry back then. If you maintain it and don’t drive like a maniac it should last a long time. I would just drain and fill soon, and then stay on top of your ATF service intervals from now on. Scotty likes to say every 30,000-40,000 miles but you can do every 50,000 as well. | |||||

| ... the petrol versions of the Avensis got the Aisin K1XX. These are often called "A brother to the Jatco JF011" because they're very mechanically similar and their reliability is sadly also similar. The Nissan Jatco JF011 is well known of this forum for all kinds of failures on Nissan cars. I would AVOID the K1XX series CVT, you might want to ask about their reliability where you live - online you can find a lot of failures at way under 100,000km and less. But you can not go wrong with a manual. those rarely cause any issues, a petrol with a manual can ... | |||||
| 2016 Camry with 80k miles wanders on the highway | 17Relevance | 5 years ago | WeMissScottyHereInHouston | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The Car: 2016 Camry XSE V6 2GR-FE, u660e auto transmission, 80k miles, transfluid drained and refilled @ 60k, all other routine maintenance performed by the book for the most part. The issue: The car wanders on the highway and constantly requires a little bit of input to keep it between the lines and I cannot figure out why, steering feels tight but you can tell that there is just a little bit of slop/play that has to be taken up somewhere before the car will actually start responding to me correcting its path with the steering wheel. It's driving me cra ... | |||||

| ... said, the kinks probably wouldn't have been worked out, and there are some known issues with the u660e transmissions and the dashboards melting. Also if you are anywhere with a remotely hot and sunny climated, 2007 models' interiors tend to melt. You don't want to deal with that. If I were you, I would get either the 2011 or 2013, whichever one has better service records and passes a mechanical inspection. After all of that, its a personal decision, I personally like the exterior of the 2013 better but the interior of the 2011 better. | |||||

| Avoid used hybrids especially one already with more than 100,000 miles on it as battery, generator, and other hybrid system costs will be very $$$ when it comes time to replace them. That being said, I’d get the 2013 Lexus ES350, followed by the 2011 Lexus ES350. The 2007 ES350 I am not recommending just because that was the first year with the 6-speed automatic transmission (U660E) and 2nd year with the 3.5L engine (2GR-FE) whereas the 2011 and 2013 which also use the same engine and transmission have already had multiple years by then to work out the kinks in the powertrain. Also, see if the 2013 and the 2011 has any documented service history: I would get the one with a better history (I.e. engine oil and transmission fluid changed on time). To get that you can create an account at Lexus website here (for free), then add the VIN of the car and check the service history yourself (for free!, very easy to get, and obviously without going through dealer): And you still want an independent, honest mechanic to check out the vehicle before you buy. | |||||

| ... have turbos and cylinder deactivation etc. and you should be fine. He might also like the 2016-2017 Camry but oddly enough the Mazda transmissions are stronger than the 6 speed u660e units. 2016-2017 is a sweet spot. 2015 Toyota partnership, 2014 redesign, 2012 Skyactive engine, but before the cylinder deactivation in 2018. My stance would be that Mazda is still considerably above average on quality, below Toyota's reliability, but above brands like Subaru (by a small but considerable amount), and Nissan, Hyundai, Volkswagen by a lot. Good luck. You can get ... | |||||

| ... cold then clears up. I know there has been issues with this automatic transmission type u660e 6 speed with a bearing spinning loose in the case causing metallic particles to contaminate the fluid and get into the valve body. My guess is these particles or some other contamination was kicked up from the flushing and got into the valve body and now I’m having these shift flares. Can I clean this valve body, or replace the entire valve body or is there anything else that you can recommend before I end up having to replace the entire transmission. Thanks you i ... | |||||
