| @Braden427 the 3.7 has same design as the 3.5 with the water pump driven by timing chain, and issue affects up to the present. See Scotty’s video below: | |||||

| I knew about the timing chain water pump design flaw but ive read after 2011 they updated it and its much better reliability wise . i actually had a 2014 taurus until last friday when i drunk driver hit me and totalled it. I never had an issue with the 3.5 na v6 in 176000 miles (bought it at 23k miles) or with the transmission. I was mainly wondering if there is anything specific to the lincolns that were problematic. Ive never owned the 3.7 so i was also wondering if they had any issues other than the internal water pump design. Also i appreciate the fast responses! | |||||

| Yes they are similar in reliability hence the same problems and similar end conclusion. But the OP may not realize that and be confused - that’s all. | |||||

| @daywalker I realized that but I thought they were similar in reliability when it came to the mechanical bones. Plus more data for MKZ;) | |||||

| I am not an expert on Lincolns but I am pretty sure the Ford 3.5 and 3.7 V6 had water pump issues and the 6 speed auto is a unit that is burned out by the V6, like in the 500 and Fusion. | |||||

| Scotty I have a 2009 Cadillac DTS 4.6L Automatic “vin Y” with 92300 miles At the beginning of January 2025 I got a DTC P0446 Evaporative Emission System Vent Control Circuit I replaced the vent valve on the charcoal canister and cleared the code…. 2 days later I got another DTC P0451 Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/switch I replaced the fuel tank pressure switch…. Since the repairs there have been no codes and all I/M monitors are ready. My problem is with the live data, The Purge Flow Monitor test $C5 has a high H20 reading and the Secondary Air Monitor has Low PSI. What do these readings mean! | Subaru and Oil Seal Leaks | 0Relevance | 3 years ago | Motown Mopar | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, this isn't a question but a comment on Subaru quality and reliability I thought I would share and you could inform others if necessary. I brought in a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek last month for regular service at 84,000 miles. Owned since new, we have been very diligent (especially oil and filter changes) with services and almost all were done at Subaru dealerships. So, at this service in May, the dealer recommended that all engine seals be redone, oil pans, Cam Sealer, valve covers, etc, except for the head gasket which is in good condition. They stated many times that this is quite common for all newer Subaru engines and there is nothing we could have done to prevent this at all. They began using a liquid sealant at the factory and because the oil in a boxer engine rests on these seals when not in use, it degrades and begins to leak. Shockingly they want $5,200 to remove the engine and remove all components and reseal them. I demanded to see what they were talking about and they took me back in the shop and sure enough there was oil on the bottom half of the engine. I called Subaru customer support and they offered me $2,500 towards this repair but it is still too much for a well maintained car with only 84,000 miles on it. So, in lieu of this repair I will check the oil every thousand miles to ensure it does not get low. I am pretty sure the oil began leaking years ago but was not brought to my attention when it could have been done under warranty. The service tech agreed that is what they would do at this point, too. Coincidentally there was another newer Crosstrek in the dealer shop having this repair done but they told me it was still under warranty. Upon searching the internet, this Subaru oil leak/sealant problem is described all over the place. Clearly this should be a Subaru recall if they really mean it when they claim quality and longevity as they do in their commercials. If anyone buys a new Subaru and keeps it longer than the warranty, they need to be very, very careful and if thinking of buying a new one, get in writing this work was already done. Maybe Toyota isn't perfect, but I have an 09 Rav4 with over 100,000 miles, and thanks to your advice, a new in 22 Corolla and they are happily on the road. The only out of the ordinary item the Rav4 needed was a new ECM, $700 total parts and labor, in 2022. I attached the recommendation to this post from the Subaru dealer in Las Vegas. This is one of the crazier things I have ever seen. | |||||

| Change the Brake fluid? | 0Relevance | 4 years ago | steverx | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Scotty, a two part question. The mini chain of repair shops I've used several times said that they don't turn the rotors since it wears them down too thin. thus they do a complete replacement of pads and rotors. Now the Honda dealer said they will turn the rotors, if they're in good shape. Is this gouging or acceptable practice? #2 since the front and back rarely need replacing together the shops always want to replace the brake fluid. Is it necessary to change the fluid with every brake evern when only one set are being replaced? Thamks Steve M | |||||

| Why might I need sheet metal surgery? For reference I'm looking at this listing: I've also seen in theses 700r4 installs that there is a kick down kit that aids in keeping the torque converter from spinning in final gear to keep the oil cooler. ..also any chance the current shift linkage may work? | |||||
