| 2004 Ford SVT Lightning: Not a good idea for the first car. Those fords are performance trucks and people tend to beat them hard. As a rule of thumb, you should avoid buying those cars used if owned by young kids, although if it has an elderly owner, it worth checking it out. The Tacoma or 4runners are better options for the first car. | |||||
| Answer to: Is it smart to buy this Lexus 2003 SC430 with 250K miles as my sons first car? | 9Relevance | 5 years ago | InThrustWeTrust | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I don’t think an old Lexus is a good first car because the parts on that can be expensive & that defeats the purpose of a cheap first car. Look at regular Toyotas & Hondas instead. Much much cheaper to fix! | |||||

| Well, if it's only doing it first and second gear and not the other gears I would assume first and second gear are wearing out inside the transmission. Anything else? It's going to vibrate and all gears when you go. Not just first and second. first and second gears are often the first ones to go out | |||||

| ... and bought by my uncle who got it back to street). Engine core parts were brand new, some external components like the ignition coil or battery were bought second hand too. To have a starting point, when I got the car, it was in great shape, besides just one code, P0441 but at the time didn't hinder performance and as my first car, I went by his conclusion and kinda neglected it, looked for the code online and first pages deemed that code not as much as an annoyance, but might be worth mentioning that besides not appearing all the time, it did from time to ... | |||||

| New or used? Many people recommend getting a used bike first, as you might "outgrow" your first bike, or decide you'd like a different type. I'd go with the Japanese brands if you're looking for reliability (and better paint and chrome). But first,go to a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider course "The MSF Basic RiderCourse is designed for beginning riders of all ages. More than 8 million motorcyclists nationwide have graduated from a RiderCourse since 1974. Eight to ten hours of classroom-style instruction – including, in some states, the Basic eCour ... | |||||

| Hey what do you think about the brand new brz as a first car in a automatic transmission? I am thinking about getting first automatic but since I can't find one new and I prefer brand new because of risks associated of used sports cars. Afterwards I will trade in mines in for a manual one. What do you think? If I cannot find a automatic brz should I special order? | |||||
| Should I buy a used minivan as my first car? | 9Relevance | 4 years ago | The Dragon Report | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello. I am interested in getting a minivan as a first car because of their versatility, but I often run into the issue of them having 200,000+ miles, having an accident on record, or the owner stating a major problem with the vehicle such as slipping transmission or blown head gasket. How can I find a decent minivan for a first vehicle? My top pick is the Toyota Sienna, but I would be happy with a Chrysler Town and Country or Dodge Grand caravan if the price is reasonable and it checks out with my local mechanic. | |||||

| MY daughter is buying her first car, I need advice | 9Relevance | 5 years ago | BigDog | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| MY daughter is looking for her first vehicle. She found a 2003 Toyota Matrix with 287k miles on it. At 202k the dealership put in a new engine block. Later they replaced the transmission with a newer used one. They changed the front axles and lower control arms. They replaced the brakes and it recently passed smog. I drove it and it runs very smooth for its age. Even though it’s not the prettiest, I told my daughter that usually your first car tends to be a POS. The guy is asking 3k o.b.o., I told her we could probably get it cheaper. Anyway could you give a ... | |||||

| Hi! I'm from Belgium and bought a 318ci 2002 for 2000 euro's last year as my first car as well! It had 271 000 km's(169 000) miles and was amazing to drive the first 2 weeks. But then it blew a head gasket and cracked the head 🤣 🤣 . We then bought a used engine for 600 euro's(plus 800 euro installation) and since then it ran fine despite some minor things. But looking back at it I would have bought something cheaper to maintain and more reliable. Almost everyone in my family have got vw(audi, skoda) tdi's and they seem to last a long t ... | |||||

So being a mechanic myself by hobby I said I'll take the chance it ran good, sounded good, shifted good both in automatic and using slap shifter, and it even came with a few aftermarket upgrades. But, after about a month it needed usual repairs like a wheel bearing(literally have to replace these everttime I buy a used car, never fails.
