| Hi Scotty! Long time lurker, but first time poster. I have spent much of COVID dreaming about a camper van, and have a few questions about the Mercedes Sprinter Van. Do they really last? What is your take on Mercedes Sprinters? 2WD, 4WD, 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder does it matter when we talk about longevity which engine is in there? The internet says the diesel engine can get 500k, but is that true? I know you generally say to stay away from Mercedes, but the Sprinters seem to have a reputation to run a long time and hold their value. Price How ... | |||||

| On the Sprinter: Well the Mercedes Sprinter has been the gold standard of vans for a while. The 2022 Sprinter is brand new generation with what seems to be a brand new V6 engine. The 4 cyl. diesel isn't as great as a V6 but they're also quite alright, usually you can get 250k miles out of it. Both have the same "7G-Tonic Plus" transmission, and usually these are the weak spot (especially if you drive fast) Although there isn't any concrete information that I'm aware of, the warranty, if true, it does suggest the lifespan. I'd go with the Sprin ... | |||||
| Sprinter or Transit? | 45Relevance | 3 years ago | Brano848 | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hello Sir, I am deciding on buying a new van, transit or Sprinter. Transit has aroun 310 HP,Sprinter 4 cyl. Diesel dual turbo around 215 HP. Having a plumbing and heating service my van gets pretty heavy…would you recommend the transit? I understand they have failing transmissions (transits) and don’t hold the value as well as Mercedes… My concern with the Sprinter it doesn’t have enough HP? What is your opinion? Thanks | |||||
| Answer to: Is a t1n 2006 Dodge Sprinter a reliable choice for a full-time camper conversion? | 45Relevance | 4 years ago | Kaizen | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The Dodge Sprinter is basically the Mercedes Benz Sprinter, which is basically the Freightliner Sprinter. Just by reputation, generally speaking, those are probably the best and most popular vans used for such a conversion. Granted, this statement is just second hand knowledge, I have no direct experience with these vehicles. Just indirect from folks that drive them, specifically Delivery employees. | |||||

| The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van is kind of meh. The 3.0 diesel van is a considerable option. I would leave the Sprinter van as the last option. | |||||
| Mercedes Sprinter Idle Mode Help | 34Relevance | 3 years ago | Bryan C | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| (Too Long Didn’t Read at the end) My father owns a 2018 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 with 48k miles and it is an automatic. He uses it for A/C work but it quit working on him. The computer screen on the dash told him to “add DEF” and limited the number of times to start the engine. He returns home and adds the Def but the limited amount of starts notice persists. So he continues working and uses the last start to get back home and now it is in idle mode and won’t travel faster than 5 mph. So I look into it. I purchased a Topdon Antidiag OBDII scanner to read the ... | |||||

| Hi Sotty, I have a 2016 Ford Transit 350hd Cutaway L5 3.2L Turbo. Is this a reliable vehicle in the long run as a Sprinter van compared to Mercedes Sprinter Van and Dodge Promaster. Are Ford Transits better compared to other competitors that make cargo vans? Thank you, Nick | |||||
| Answer to: How long to keep a Sprinter RV | 34Relevance | 5 years ago | BucketfootE | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| The Sprinter is probably one of the most reliable Mercedes vehicles made. Assuming you are talking some sort of an RV conversion, you are going to be much more likely to experience problems related to the conversion than you will with the engine. I will add that a Sprinter based RV is ideally in my future plans as well 🙂 | |||||

| Answer to: Mercedes vs Ford Transit platform for RV | 33Relevance | 5 years ago | Kerem | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| This has been asked many times and I will summarize for you. The Ford Transit is an OK van. Not best for reliability long term but OK at best. The Sprinter van is a better van, Scotty recommends it as well. Sure maintenance might be more expensive as they age because its a Merc, but they are decent vans. I highly recommend going for the Diesel Sprinter for the sake of reliability. I also see Youtube videos of people traveling and they use the Sprinter van. Its also very customizable from what I see there but I have no experience with that. | |||||

| @mountianmanjoe c'mon man I'm just trying to help we are doing Sienna vs Sprinter I may have assumed a few statements here and there but still I stick to my original stance: Don't buy a Sprinter van for personal use and try to get 300k miles out of it, when you have the Toyota Sienna. I get overwhelmed when I get asked this many questions when I feel the outcome of my statement is correct. Even you said the Sprinter isn't a good choice for the purpose of the Oddysey/Sienna | |||||

| You aren't getting 300,000 miles out of a Sprinter van take that thought and sell it to those in LaLa land. What about a regular gasoline V6 Sienna? The hybrids don't last as long as the regular ones. As for the Odyssey, the transmission do have some problems not to the same degree as 20 years ago but they are still prevalent. Its also relatively new so we don't know common problems yet but lets just say the powertrain wasn't designed for reliability. The Sienna vs Odyssey comparison would go to Sienna for longevity. You aren't getting 300k miles of an ... | |||||
| Answer to: 2023 Ford Transit 12 passenger vs 2023 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 15 passenger. | 23Relevance | 5 months ago | sophiasmith | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I'd go with the Ford Transit 350. It’s much easier to find parts for, and any local mechanic can work on it. The Sprinter is great for high-end pros like Blue Nile Livery because of that premium feel, but the Mercedes maintenance is pricey. For a solid 12-passenger van, the Ford is the way to go. | |||||
| 2009 Mercedes Sprinter 215 CDI automatic | 23Relevance | 2 years ago | Roy Heins | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| Hi Scotty, I recently purchased a VAN 2009 Mercedes Sprinter 215 CDI , (5 gear automatic, 150 bhp) 100K miles on it and I was wondering if I could change the transmission fluid now. The previous owner didn’t change the transmission fluid oil. It runs like a clock and the transmission shifts perfectly. Your feedback will be appreciated | |||||
