| Answer to: Is the old style xc90 FWD a good buy | 58Relevance | 6 years ago | Penn King | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| I would personally go for the XC70 instead of the xc90 or XC60, as you still get the winter capability, and I think that's just a better made Volvo than the 60 or 90. However, If you really like the XC60, just be careful with that city safety system as I have heard about incidences where they can speed up or stop the car when nothing is in front of them. In addition, due to the city safety, windshield replacements are gong to be more costly (as Scotty has mentioned in one of his videos). Also watch out for fuel pump issues. Other than that XC60 is okay. ... | |||||

| I own a Volvo and I am a fan of their cars. The old xc90 is great, the new xc90 is not. the old xc90 (2005-2014) was build very well and it can last a very long time if you take care of it. Volvo cars were used to be built to last 20 years or 200,000 miles. But the newer xc90s are a nightmare, never buy a new Volvo. I’m really hoping that their transition to electric will improve their reliablity. | |||||

| Did some research and found the 07-09 xc90's were pretty solid built and did not have transmission/engine issues like the earlier ones. Scotty did a video on an xc70 from a similar year and said that it was pretty reliable i find them with 200 250k miles all the time. Specific engine is 3.2 6 cylinder non-turbo. I am a very fluid person so what about the 08 09 or so S40? Parts should be easy to find as it is basically a Ford Focus the transmission is an AISIN design and the engine is non-turbo. Thoughts? Assuming driving less than 8-10k miles a year. | |||||
| Answer to: Should I buy a 2018 Volvo XC90? | 34Relevance | 5 months ago | Chuck Tobias | Submit Your Question HERE | |
| You will find that parts and service on Volvos are very expensive. On some models only the dealer can do even basic services, so you're stuck paying premium prices for everything. Looking up problems with the xc90 it appears that expensive failures such as transmission problems are not uncommon. You should probably keep looking. | |||||

| The V8s were solid and they were designed by Yamaha. That gen xc90 was a very good car and while it's no Lexus, Acura, or Infiniti, they can still be good cars. Just realize it's a gas hog and ur gonna spend more money on maintenance compared to a V6 xc90. | |||||

| Scotty, My wife and I are expecting our first child and safety is of upmost importance. We have been looking at both the highlander and Volvo xc90 and prefer the safety features of the xc90 also me being 6’7 the Volvo is the most comfortable. What are your thoughts on the new xc90s? Thanks, alex Mccool | |||||

| I was also looking at xc90's but was put off by likely bad gas mileage while using premium. Heavy vehicle chews up breaks and tires. I am not convinced the 3.2 litre is a good motor. You see many high mileage older Volvo, not a lot of xc90's. But the vehicle is still worthy of consideration, vs say a Durango. | |||||

| Please don't by one of those. The new Volvo xc90 is quite problematic. For starters, the city safety is an AI unit that sometimes wants to have a mind of its own and brake or accelerate the car without permission. In addition, when that giant "Tesla" screen goes, so does your heat, radio, A/C, etc... If you want an xc90 get a 3.2 form 2012 or newer. | |||||

| Given the current circumstances with transaction prices being higher than usual, I would get an XC60 instead of an xc90. I have a client that recently got an S60 and I saved her $1,000 ($500 teacher discount plus an extra $500 I negotiated for). The new Volvos use Aisin transmissions also. Aisin is a Toyota-owned company. An xc90 T6 Momentum goes for around $60K while an XC60 B5 Momentum goes for around $48K. | |||||

| None of them are good, especially out of warranty. Even the Volvo xc90 is a big gamble. There is no good choice, but see which one has the best final price including extended warranty options - she will need it. YouTuber Savagegeese (good channel) bought a 2019 Volvo xc90 (CPO) - R design and fully loaded - for around $42,xxx and paid $10,000 more for the extended warranty which brings it to 10 years/999,999 miles (!!) and had to use it several times already (well worth it). | |||||

She doesn't want to lease or finance her car. Which option would u guys pick as the most reliable overall? I think the xc90 is the best choice of them all. Would u agree?

| Your Jeep XJ is a certified 'Off-Road' vehicle while the Volvo xc90 is an all wheel drive SUV not meant for or designed to be used off road. Sure, you could probably be okay on the occasional dirt or gravel road but if you are into serious off roading I would not recommend it. If you do decide on a xc90, be wary of anything from 2003-2006 with the 2.9L T6 (inline 6 cyl.) engine as this model is known to have catastrophic transmission failure from as early as 30,000 miles. Remember, the Volvo is an European luxury brand therefore parts & repairs will be c ... | |||||

I don’t know how is in USA but in Poland for example small flat (2 rooms - 40 square meters) in capital city (like Warsaw in a good neighborhood) costs as much as 2024 Volvo xc90. For me unbelievable. That’s why many people are buying USA suv (after collision) and put inside LPG. Example: here in PL Volvo xc90 cost around 88 400 dollars Honda CVR 2022 hybrid around 44 883 dollars Honda CVR 2023 hybrid around 58 200 dollars Dodge Durango 5,7 hemi 2020 (a ...

| ... the transmission/transfer case to the rear wheels. More complexity compared to a standard front wheel drive V70 and therefore more things that can go wrong. Since your problem only occurs at one speed, I am guessing that maybe your driveshaft could be out of balance or if there is a bearing filled collar on the driveshaft, perhaps those bearings may be worn. I have known of many XC70 owners who have actually disconnected the rear driveshaft thereby making it a front wheel drive only vehicle due to issues with the transfer case/rear driveshaft system. BTW, I ... | |||||
