Hello, I have a 2016 Honda Civic LX with 41k miles on it. I replaced my OEM front headlights with Aftermarket Vland Sequential Turn signals. These headlights resemble those found on the Type R and the touring model of the civic. They sometime blink twice as fast only on the right side of the car, both front and rear headlights. Note: only my front headlights are aftermarket. The sequential turn signal completes its full blink ( meaning the light bar lights up completely ) but it does it twice as fast. When I have my hazards on, everything seems normal. This issue only occurs on the right side of the car. Sometimes if I leave my car sitting and start up my car the issue will go away. But it sometimes comes back. I’ve had these headlights for a little over three months. I think there might be an issue with the electrical in my car not the aftermarket turn signal itself but what do I know. Would appreciate the advice!
p.s. Scotty you said you are coming to Rhode Island, I live there I would love to meet you!
Have you checked to make sure you don't have a bulb out front or rear?
Yes all bulbs are good, the right side is blinking faster, i just went on a drive and everything was perfect. I don't know why it happens sometimes. but it only goes away after i shut off the car. So it comes randomly, when i shut car off it doesn't always go away, but sometimes it does. I have no clue.
P.s. how does one get a hold of scotty kilmer?
In a traditional system with a mechanical flasher element a fast flash means there's more load on it, causing the mechanical bits inside the flasher to break contact sooner.
In that instance I would recheck the ground connections, have seen lights do some strange things when the ground gets corroded or fails entirely.
While I would almost be surprised a 2016 still uses the old can flasher for the lights it probably wouldn't hurt to recheck your ground connections, make sure nothing is loose or causing a higher resistance than normal.
If the vehicle has one. check the flasher relay, as pontiac59 said. Usually, a faster than normal turn signal is an indication of a bad bulb, or at least it used to be.
Sounds like this was not an issue until changing the stock headlight with the aftermarket. Keep it simple, the headlight was changed, so most likely something with the headlight, and since it is intermittent, most likely a connection within the headlight (like @pontiac59 said, could be a ground issue). Double check the internals of the headlight, pull it out, shake it, tap it, see if you can recreate the issue. Check the stock wiring harness connection for corrosion. I DISagree about the issue being the wiring of the car at the moment. For giggles, put the original headlight in, does it function normally? Switch headlamps, did the issue follow the headlamp or is the issue on the right side? I think you are onto something with the lights behaving normally when the hazards are on. Usually, fast flashing LEDs are due to not enough load on the circuit (why special "old school" flashers are needed when LED marker lights are installed because LEDs do not draw enough AMPs to cause the old school flasher to heat up break the circuit, cool down, connect the circuit).
