hi scotty i have a 1993 ford ranger with the 3.0 and the 5 speed manual transmision

it started normal last night but today when i turn the key it makes a high pitched whining sound and does nothing

i thought it was the starter so i went and tapped on it with a hammer like you said in one of your videos but it did not do anything

i checked the solenoid and thats still good

so scotty has my starter kicked the bucket or is it somthing else

P.S I live in northeastern wisconsin if that helps

Your starter is toast, or, more accurately, the Bendix is toast and failing to engage the starter motor gear to the flywheel.  Get one with a limited lifetime warranty if you can.
