2005 Toyota Solara SLE Convertible. Currently has 101k miles. I purchased it a couple years ago with 85k miles from an estate sale.
Is there any way to tell by examining the engine if the timing belt has been replaced? There is no obvious sticker/writing anywhere in the engine bay to indicate it's been done. Would there be any telltale signs that the timing belt cover or other parts have been recently removed/changed that may show the belt was changed?
you could look at it and see if it's a non Toyota belt meaning it has been changed at least once but really that is a non-interference engine if the belt breaks it doesn't damage anything and I can often go many miles
Thank you for the answer. However, the owner's manual states the engine is a 3MZ−FE 3.3l engine. In the forums I've read most state it is an interference engine. Either way, looks like it's just best to go ahead and change it
@jkroberts21 - I have that 3.3L V6 in my Sienna and I've seen the same thing on forums - here is something I found that is from a service manual - hopefully it is readable once you click on it.
My mechanic explained to me that the installation process he performs is the same as he would on an interference engine because of this design. So I guess with regard to timing belt replacement, you have to treat it similar to an interference engine... Hope this helps!
@AD99 thank you for the help
