next monday i will be looking at a 2006 mazda miata sport convertible. 16,000 miles and automatic transmission. the guy is selling for 8500. this seems like too good to be true, so what should i look out for? thanks. private party seller btw
Look for a clean title, no rust and check the health of the engine & transmission on a long road test. Of course, if you’re not capable of checking in detail, take it your trusted mechanic & pay him to do it for you.
I'd be extremely suspicious of that low mileage & ask for proof to verify it’s legitimacy. Things like oil change & service receipts.
Take a scan tool along when you go to check it & verify it’s genuine mileage.
16,000 miles? 2006? Hmmn, … Look for condition of the body, first: reconstructed after a wreck? Flooded, et. al? Written off by insurance company? If any evidence of, … run!
If OK, … transmission is next. Automatics in Miatas are a weakest point. Transmission has to be checked very carefully. Also, … automatics make Miatas not a sport cars.
Engines and the rest are pretty good, …
Anyway, … have-a-look. If you like what you see, … make sure you have a good mechanic evaluate it throughly, first! You never know, … it, just maybe, … is a good find?
F.S.
When you take the car to a mechanic to check the car for you, ask him to get the real mileage from his scan tool. Also get the Carfax report check to see if you see any inconsistency for the mileage?
did you buy it?
my battery went dead after leaving the trunk open for a couple weeks
after i got it charged back up, the DSC (dynamic stability control) light was flashing OFF
the fix was to turn the key to the on position, turn the wheel all the way to the right, then turn the wheel all the way to the left, then turn the switch off, then start the car
the light went off, glad that i didnt take it to someone to fix, just youtube lol
