Dear Scotty and community,

I have a 2008 honda accord V6 with an automatic transmission with 150,000 miles. My check engine light turned on 2 days ago. When I got off work today. The check engine light started to flash and the car started to shake as if it was misfiring. You can feel the misfire at idle and it does struggle to accelerate once you give it some gas. I have a general scanner and the codes I got was P3497 valve paused system stuck off bank 2 and p0303. Normally what I remember the p0303 is a misfire code which seems to be cylinder number 3 and the other code seems to be a spool valve bank 2. Could the P3497 code be triggered by the P0303? I did smell the oil and it did not smell like gasoline.

More often it is the opposite. The code for the cylinder deactivation can make it misfire. I would check that out and pray it's a bad electrical connection or corrosion somewhere and not internal to the engine

Dear Scotty,
It's an absolute honor to hear from the man himself. I did what you have always said. Basics first. I checked the engine oil after looking up the information on alldata DIY. I checked the oil level and it was low and I mean low. I had to add a quart to it. I swapped the ignition coil on cylinder number 3 to cylinder 4. I cleared both codes. I test-drove it and the check engine light came back on after a test drive. The only code so far that came back was cylinder number 4 after swapping the coils. I got an original OEM ignition. I cleared the code and so far no codes have come back. I also checked the spark plug in cylinder number 3 and it was worn out. It had those cheap spark plugs from Autozone. I changed them just to be safe and it runs fine now. I am hoping the other code doesn't come back on since I see it is burning oil. Thank you again Scotty.

I have an update on the repair for the Honda. I swapped coils from cylinder number 3 to cylinder 4 and the code jump. Put a new ignition coil and the code went away. I also changed all 6 spark plugs since one of them was in bad shape. I checked the oil level and it was low. The code P3497 went away. after driving for a few miles all emissions monitors were complete. Drove it one last time to make sure it was gone for food, Unfortunately, the P3497 code did come back. After doing research and following all Data per the testing protocol. It was determined the oil pressure switch was bad. Oil pressure was good and within spec. Unfortunately, the oil pressure switch is currently on national backorder. Seems Honda is having a lot of parts back-ordered. This would be the third part I have ordered that is on national backorder. I did get a semi-good aftermarket and the check engine light has not come back on. I did drive it for 2 days and no code has come back.

good work. Thanks for the detailed report. Hopefully it helps somebody.
