2008 NC MX-5 Whirring Sound at 50 MPH Only When Accelerating

I just bought a 2008 Mazda MX-5 NC PRHT Grand Touring Automatic 3 months ago. I have a whirring/whining sound when I hit 50 MPH - about 53 MPH only on acceleration. It's like clockwork at 50 MPH. Goes away at any other speed. I have paddles, so 50 in any gear I still hear the whirring/whining sound. Same pitch all the time. It's subtle, not loud but it's there. Is it Differential, Transmission, Alternator, etc?

Can you please make a YouTube video of the noise and post the link here?

Hey Scotty, I'm uploading the video as I type. Taking forever for some strange reason to upload to YouTube. First time I ever had this issue. Just wanted to let you know it's coming. Thanks for all your hard work and vehicle knowledge. I tried your Lysol spray in vents. Must nicer smell now. Video to come soon.

I would start by checking all the pulleys on accessories; alternator, water pump, power steering pump, AC compressor, idler and tensioner pulleys and go from there.  It sounds like a bearing is going out.

Here's the audio. Sorry it took so long. Pay no attention to video speedometer at end, it does not match audio. Thanks again. Go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_fZqoaTOjY

I have tried all of those things. All seem fine. I posted a video of the sound. Thanks.

I’m not Scotty, just a volunteer on the website. Since you said that the noise stops when you lift off the gas, I’d say check the driveshaft & differential. Have you verified it’s not a wheel bearing?

Ok.I thought you were Scotty. I'm new on here and I had no idea other people commented here as well. Now I know how this all works. Thank you for letting me know. Have a nice day.

On your question. I had a reputable Transmission shop take it for a drive with me in the car and he said it was the diff, not a wheel bearing. He said he would start by changing the Diff Oil first, then go from there.

Fair enough then, hoping for the best.
