Hi Scotty..love your shows on all your platforms. Maybe, one day you'll hit up cc Vegas. Anyhow I'm withy question.
I have a 2010 Nissan Altima SL with say 86k clicks. After I bought the car I noticed a buck in the CVT. I took it to Nissan and they said they CVT needed to be replaced. No it had just been replaced at 83k so this was going to be the 3rd CVT. It was installed in Nov 2020. Here's the fun part, I read the OBD2 after and it still had a permanent fault on the CVT and a few other items such as a misfire and evaporator fail. The dealer said I needed to drive the car some 300 to 400 miles and it will clear on it's own as the computer is learning. I have screenshots from the scanner I'll provide.I really don't drive the car much at all as I'm home and disabled.I'd like to get an opinion of a solid mechanic on this and then go thru the car to tell me what it really need in maintenance. I bought the car in Sept and haven't driven much. Maybe 500 miles. Don't laugh 😂 It does have an extended warranty thank God.You know how stealership oops dealerships are.
The code is U0101 permanent TCM no communication.
Also,
Misfire, fuel system, catalyst, EVAP system, and O2 sensor ---all say Not Passed in current drive cycle
Thank you so much Scotty.
Well no communication is a transmission control module means either the module is bad or the wiring going to it knowing those clunkers I would guess the module is bad
Are you paying for all the CVTs from your pocket?
The u0101 code may be nothing. If the cars battery has dropped at all it can cause those codes and would not be indicative of a cvt failure and as long as the cvt’s installed were purchased from Nissan they carry a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty so that should be covered and if your feeling a buck and you have a misfire code I would have to say that points more toward your problem being misfire related than cvt if the only trans code is that U0101. Possibly a bad ignition coil they aren’t uncommon
