2011 Volvo XC60 Transmission slip?

2011 Volvo XC60 automatic transmission 80kish miles

After a full stop, attempted residential turn at low speeds. Car fell back into either first gear or neutral and would rev instead of moving. Ran rough until it stalled 20-30 seconds later with check engine. Attempted to start the car and started rough, restarted again after shifting to park and it started fine. Check engine gone, and car ran fine to my driveway, had it shift through several gears out of curiosity before parking.

Waiting to get access to OBD2 scanner hoping the code will still show. Car does display "low battery" and has for months, car also shifts rough from park to reverse intermittently, indicating it probably need fluid change. Just not sold on the fluid change due to the engine running rough and stalling.

Any ideas? Will return if a code does pop up.

Thank you.

You'll want to check codes and live data for issues, but an inexpensive scanner may not show transmission codes. You may be looking at more than one problem. The transmission is overdue for servicing if it has never been done. Refer to the site FAQ for details.

Given the "low battery" light obviously the battery and alternator should be load-tested ASAP. (Why would you leave it that way for months?) Low voltage alone can cause a host of problems.

Also check the simple stuff - filters, spark plugs, fuel pressure, transmission fluid, vacuum leaks.

My girl's car. Got the battery checked when it first came up at O'Reilly's and test came out ok. No codes at the moment.

If the low battery light is on you have an electrical problem. Either the battery is bad despite the test, which can happen, or it's the alternator. Thorough diagnostics of the battery and charging system is usually beyond the capability of O'Reilly's and similar stores, they can only do limited tests. How old is the battery?

Of course codes are just the bare beginning of the diagnostic process. Live data should also be checked for issues.

Just under 4 years on the battery, any resources you recommend for reading and understanding live data. Also does this issue sound battery related.

You can search youtube for tips on analyzing live data. Fuel trims and MAF data would be simple things to check, but of course there's lots more that could probably fill a college-level course.

A 4-year-old battery might be OK or might be on its last legs. (I typically get just a little over 3 years out of a battery due to high underhood temperatures.) That low battery light has been warning you for months for a reason.
