2012 Chrysler 300C - Shakes from 35-65...

Hey Scotty! Been watching your youtube videos for a long time and really enjoy your commentary.

Been having an issue with my Chrysler for a couple years. I know, I shouldn't have bought a Chrysler... or Dodge... but here I am. I can't pinpoint when it started, but I've tried quite a few things to remedy it. It shakes when driving between 35mph and 65mph. Less than or more than that, it's not noticeable.

I thought originally it was the brake rotors warped. It had 70K on it at the time (fall of 2018). I replaced all 4 rotors and pads with Napa's mid-high end line. That didn't fix it.

The tires were worn (they were replaced at 40K), so even though they had life left, I had them changed (December 2018). The tires I put on it at 30K where Continental Pure Contact 245/45R20. It rode fine until about 70K. The new tires put on at 70K are Continental Pure Contact LS 245/45R20.

When I had the second set of tires put on, I had the balanced of course and I also had a full alignment done. The shaking persisted.

By the end of January 2019, living with the shaking, I took it to a shop in town that is well known for their alignments (place a lot of the small dealers use) and they checked it out. They said the rims seemed ok, the tires appeared ok, but I asked them to balance them again and to do the road force balance (something I read about online). The issue was better, but not resolved.

I then ordered a new set of tires and had this same place install them, balance and road force test again. Uniroyal Tiger Paw. I had run these tires on every car I've owned in the past 15 years with zero issues. I've had 6 or 7 full sets of those tires (different size) over the years, maybe more. I run all of them for 70-80K without failure or issue. On this car, it made the issue so much worse and the tire howl was awful. This time I took it to a Dodge/Chrysler dealer. Figured they should know how to work on it and diagnose the issue... they said the tires are bad.

So I took it back to the place that changed them and asked them to put my old tires back on. Then I sold the Uniroyal's to a friend, I told him if they shook/had issues, then he didn't have to pay me. He loves them! He put them on his Ford Flex.

So here it is, coming up on 3 years of living with this tire shake on a car that I now own outright and have only put 10K on it since 2018. Partly due to Covid and because my company moved closer to me and implemented an agressive work from home schedule before Covid even happened.

If it wasn't for Covid, I'd have just gotten rid of the car already. But until Covid is gone or at least dealt with and I know my job is more secure, I'm sticking with the car that I own that shakes... but sure would be nice to get rid of the shaking.

The one thing I haven't tried is replacing the wheels. At $350+ a piece... I would do that, but there has to be a way to tell if the issue is in fact a wheel or all the wheels before spending the money on the wheels and transferring/rebalancing the tires again.

Get me to a good front end alignment shop they can figure anything out if it's in the suspension if it is not in the suspension it can be in the drivetrain like bent drive shaft transmission starting to go out torque converter going out lots of stuff but normally it's something in the suspension
