Hi all,
I have a 2012 v6 mustang premium, I have had a concerning vibrating coming from what seems like the engine for a while now. Whenever I start the car up it comes to life totally fine but once it starts to warm up and the coolant gauge begins going above the C ticker line it starts making a concerning vibrating noise that shakes the whole cabin. Not enough to shake your pants off but you can feel it very well through the steering wheel and even seats. I just replaced my thermostat because I was told that could be causing it but it didn't fix it. I honestly needed to replace it anyway but still, I was hoping the problem would be resolved. I also changed my spark plugs about 4 or 5 months ago but this issue only arose about a month ago so I don't believe that has anything to do with it. Checking that off of the list because I've seen online that it could be a cause for vibrating. I also replaced the intake manifold seal when I did that job.
Whenever the car is in motion at all the vibrating stops. It only happens while Idling (parking space, redlights etc). Sometimes the car will kind of "burp". By that I mean the car will sputter and the rpms will drop and then jump back up and the vehicle continues to idle rough. I plan to replace the vehicle in the next few years but I would like to get it fixed if it's not going to be an absurd amount of money. My local shop tried to rip us off and charge us over 100-200 dollars for a diagnostic and there are not many in our area so I'd rather ask here at take guesses at replacing parts because they probably need to be replaced at this point anyway given its now a 10 year old car.
Mods:
Cold air intake
Tune (currently not on the car)
Borla stinger S catback exhaust
Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
Go to a big chain auto parts store and get it scanned for codes, for free. The cold air intake is a total waste of money. I'll bet your MAF and MAP sensors are dirty and need cleaning. Also, the PCV and EGR valves need cleaning or replacement.
It provided decent gains and better throttle response so I don't think it was a waste. I'll look into the MAF sensor because that could be the case. The intake cone probably needs a good cleaning as well. Thanks for the advice
