2014 Hyundai Elantra loss of acceleration

Hi, so I have a 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT Hatchback which has been having some issues with accelerating, especially when going uphill or any slopes. It'll rev up to 3 or 4 rpm but won't go past 30-4o mph. There's also some rumbling or jerking with it too and noticed poor fuel economy and some type of screeching noise when I accelerate and then it'll go away. I have about 126,000 miles on it, and I did replace the spark plugs and ignition coils very recently. Would this be a issue of a clogged catalytic converter?

You need to get it scanned for codes for free at a chain auto parts store to find out what's really going on, then repair it properly.


Yeah, so there is no check engine light on my car with these problems and I did go to auto zone and their scanner didn't pick anything up.

When is the last time your fuel filter and air filter were changed? Spark plugs?


Not sure about fuel filter. Air filter and spark plugs were changed about 3-4 months ago. I was also recommended to do a seafoam treatment which I did about 2 weeks ago and didn't really see any difference.


NEVER use Seafoam in an automobile engine. It is not designed to be used in them. Whoever recommended Seafoam is seriously mistaken.


Why isn't seafoam supposed to be used in an automobile engine, just curious?


Seafoam was designed for use in 2-stroke engines, mainly outboard motors, not automobile engines. Best bet for car engines is a PEA-based fuel system cleaner like Techron or the ATS cleaner Scotty has talked about.

take out upstream O2 sensor

Or drill a couple of holes

Does it shift correctly? You might also check the pressure before cat to make sure it does not have restriction in the exhasut gas flow. 


It'll be stuck a little above 3000 RPM, if I'm going uphill even a little, for a bit until I release the pedal a little and sometimes it'll shift down but other times it'll just stay stuck there going only 40 mph and not going any faster until I start going downhill. How would I check the pressure to make sure there's no restriction in the exhaust gas flow?

NEVER use Seafoam in an automobile engine
