How do I improve my fuel economy

I have a 3.5L V6 2014 Toyota Avalon Where I fill up the whole tank and I get around 260-270 miles on a whole tank of 14 gallons. I looked up the amount the Avalon should have which is 350+ miles and have a 17 gallon tank. I put the recommended octane which is 87 octane regular. I changed the battery, spark plugs, intermediate shaft because there was a problem with it when I got the car in NOV 2022. what could be the problem? clean fuel injectors? clean mass air flow sensor? The car has 93k miles and still runs like a clock.

So doing simple math (divide the miles by gallons), you are getting 19.3 miles to the gallon (mpg)

By the way, it's more accurate to use the actual volume of gas from the pump display.

According to the department of transportation (fueleconomy.gov), your car was rated to get 21 mpg in the city (when new. This will degrade as the engine wears). That's close to what you're reporting. What type of driving do you do?

50/50 aggressive and normal. i just put gas treatment before i filled up and got 276 miles on full tank

I meant city/highway.
Any kind of aggressive driving has a significant impact on economy, and if you're doing it half of the time, then you should be thrilled about getting 19mpg with a V6. Additives will affect your economy too.

Has the mpg decreased since you purchase your car 11 months ago or is it about the same?

You purchased a 9 year-old car, do you know the maintenance history by the previous owner? Issues like carbon deposits from using poor quality fuel and/or frequent short drives/city driving, or sludge build-up from infrequent oil and filter changes over 9 years of driving can decrease mpg.

You mentioned cleaning the MAF sensor. Sure, I would recommend doing that as well as cleaning the throttle body and replacing the engine air filter before it gets "too" dirty. I replace mine every 10K miles. Using a good quality top tier gasoline will help maximize fuel efficiency. After all, those are the primary ingredients (air and fuel) of engine combustion, so the cleaner/ they are the more efficient Keep the tires properly inflated. Also tires differ in their construction and hence rolling resistance which affects mpg. Remove any unnecessary items from your trunk to lighten the load. Change your engine oil every 5K miles.

You cited a 350+ mile range with a 17 gallon tank. That equates to 20.5 mpg and as @mmj calculated you are getting about 1 mpg less which can probably be attributed to your aggressive driving style. (But the maintenance items mentioned previously should still be addressed.)

Aggressive driving definitely requires more fuel. You must pay for the exhilaration of acceleration! 😉
