2016 ford explorer limited 54,000miles. I was in car rider line trying to pick up my daughter when a overheating temp warning popped up. I panic, when I pulled over its when I notice that there was no coolant. Overall the water pump was leaking and apparently it was leaking on the ac compressor was damaged.( according to the dealership that diagnosed the the issue)also ( I was noticing that the ac was slowly acting up but I thought it was a need for more freon or the houston heat this year(2021). So because of the ridiculous way ford built this car the cost to repair both the water pump and the ac compressor plus labor, I decided to repair the water pump as I still needed my car. I won't be able to afford to repair the ac compressor for the next few months. My concern is will it ever work the same ? Or will it be worth to repair it over all. I am so disappointed in the way ford had this issue that see.s to be common with the water pump. Thank you so much.

Hard to see what a coolant leak would have done to the compressor aside from maybe messing up the clutch. Take it to to a competent AC technician at an independent repair shop for evaluation.

So, it's odd that the water pump cab leak and damage the ac compressor? I cant find images of exactly how this engine is or how they positioning the waterpump and ac compressor. I have to save up for a second opinion for sure. I know to get to either one is a entire hard process so it's gonna be expensive and I am trying not to freak out or get scammed. Thank you again

Yes, I would say that it's odd. As I said if the water pump does happen to be positioned above the AC compressor on that engine I could see maybe it causing an issue with the compressor clutch but even that's a stretch. All we're talking about is some coolant leaking onto the exterior of the compressor which really should not affect anything. You'll definitely want to get a second opinion on this. Dealerships are notorious for padding repair bills with unnecessary work, try to find a good independent mechanic to look at it. (I think Scotty has recommended someone in the Houston area.)
