Good evening everyone
I just bought a 2016 Toyota Tacoma SR5 4x4 with 72000 miles. I has an automatic transmission. I wanted to change the differential oil in both front and read diff. The manual calls for 75w85 oil. I looked on line and the Toyota oil is expensive. The only other 75w85 diff oil I found is a brand called Redline. I see other brands like mobile 1 and AMSOIL but the only type they have in the auto pars store is 75w90. Would it be safe to use 75w90 oil in my diffs, and has anyone have and experience with redline oil? is that a good quality oil? I never heard of that brand before. Also, I want to change the transfer case oil, and again the Toyota oils is $$$$. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket brand?
Thanks
Bill
You can run the 75W90 in your differentials with with no problem at all. Most Toyota dealerships use bulk 75W90 oil in the front and rear differentials.
I also have a Gen 3 Tacoma, 2017 TRD Off Road 4x4. I am running Mobil 1 synthetic 75W90 in my front and rear differentials. It has now been in there for 30,000 miles.
You asked about Red Line oil. Their oil is top quality. Very good oils...............
If you decide to change the oil in your transfer case, do not use the 75W90. There is a specific oil you need. You can use the Toyota equivalent oil made by Red Line and by Ravenol. This has been addressed on this forum and can be found using the search feature. There is also a lot of great information on the Tacomaworld.com website.
Hey bill. I get it expensive.. if unsure u should use the dealer oil to be 100% sure and it does not get changed that often .
Datatrek and oil u want to use .. example go to google and write
Datatrek and Castrol.
