Hey guys we are looking into midsized crossovers and as of now, our top contender is the 2017-18 CRV Touring as they fit our price range and other requirements. Is there anything we should look out for or even steer clear of the car?
Thank y'all so much for your input, we've decided to rule out the CR-V as the CVT and low 190HP is just too slow. We also aren't bringing the rav4 in as the looks aren't to our liking interior or exterior. Most likely we will buy a leased/CPO 2015-17 XC60 as we love the styling and Swedish design and are willing to take the higher repair costs since we have a mechanic for just our Volvos who is beyond amazing and we trust very much.
also, i thought i should add we are getting a fwd as we want the better gas mileage and less maintenance!
Look up recalls for that vehicle. I’ve heard people talking about those recently saying there are recalls out for them right now. Not sure on what though. Also keep in mind that the CVT transmissions in those things do not really hold up well. Make sure you stay on top of fluid changes and baby that transmission like crazy.
yeah and we have actually had good luck with our 2014 accord's cvt
Get the LX trim. The Touring had the 1.5 Turbo engine well known for oil dilution issue the LX came with a 2.4 NA engine. I would also stick to 2018 as 2017 had lots of complaints as its the first year of the generation.
See we are looking for the features of the EX-L or Touring and in this case, should we just go back to looking at the 2015-17 Volvo XC60?
In that case I'd stick to the Honda they "solved" that issue in the 2019 model year my friend also had the same dilemma of getting the same year range if I were you I would wait a bit and get a 2019 as problems would have been solved. You could also consider a Toyota Rav4 (2016-2018) in the higher level trims.
Volvos are nice but when they break they are expensive. If you have to stick with that year range, have a mechanic make sure there is no oil delution problems, as well as the CVT transmission is in good shape.
Here is the complaint data for the 2017 Honda CR-V: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Honda/CR-V/2017/
You might also want to consider a Lexus RX350 from 2010-2015. RAV4 above mentioned is a good choise. Maybe even a 2016 CR-V. 2014 and before CR-V had traditional auto so that could also be on the list.
Yeah we have 2 Volvos already and love them that's why we were going for the xc60
In that case suer but realize since 2010 Volvo is owned by the Chinese they are great cars but after 150k miles or so they start have some problems but they are pretty reliable if you don't keep forever.
No. After 2014 avoid CRVs. Pre-2014 all are good.
RAV4 is better. If you like rav 4’s exterior
Those are pretty well made, go ahead and buy it.
We own a 2010 CRV with the 2.4L. I beleive they fixed it later but it has the oil usage issue with the rings. Car has 160k and uses about a quart of oil every 1700 miles. Otherwise it has been a fantastic car the 8 years we have owned it and continue to. The new Turbo models do have the oil dilution issue and that could have long term engine wear impacts if your not religious on oil changes.
