2020 Toyota corolla le engine damaged?

I had to take the car to the shop to get a noise checked out and they said it was the water pump, which they replaced, after I picked it up the noise was gone, but not long after (less than 2 mins of driving), the car started overheating, I noticed very quickly and shut the car off. Pretty sure the temperature gouge touched the red line or at least it was very close before I turned off the car. I was going at about 30 mph. I did get the car back to the shop, they had left air in the system, which caused the overheating. Should I be concerned about engine damage, even though it only overheated for less than 10 seconds before being shut off. Thanks in advance!

Did you originally take the vehicle to the dealership to check on the noise?  Any work done on the vehicle by an independent shop and especially if they didn’t do the job properly won’t be covered by warranty.  If the engine is blown, it won’t be covered by the warranty now;  in that case, the shop owes you a new one.  I would never go to them again:  making sure there is no air in the system is Mechanics 101.

You might want to do a head gasket test and also do a visual check to see that coolant and oil are not mixing. (Shouldn't a 2020 model still be under warranty?)

Shouldn’t have done any major damage, if at all. If you’re not having any drivability issues now, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Still, whoever did the work (dealer or independent shop), ask them to give you in writing that the car overheated after they worked on it. If your engine fails prematurely (in future), they should be responsible for the damage.
