Hey Scotti. I Bought a Kia Sorento back in December. Love the car, Hate the dealership. I just received a notice about the accelerator pedal. Seems the car is fly by wire and the pedal position sensor will malfunction occasionally. The car while idling in gear can accelerate out of control creating what is refereed to as a "Minor Crash Hazard". Does that mean the chances are minor of the malfunction or the crashes will have minor damage? I guess it's a matter of who "T" bones you while your car barrels uncontrollably into an intersection. I called the dealer and they are all out of replacements but I am on a list when they come in.
What do ya think? Should I tell my wife or should I trade for her 2011 Santa Fe to commute to work. {black}
Let me clarify the statement " minor crash hazard". When I asked if I could continue to drive the car until the parts came in the service manager used the term "Minor Crash Hazard" and warned me to watch the tachometer while in traffic. I don't know whether he was trying to be flippant or serious. I have not seen any symptoms in my car and to tell you the truth the car is running rather well. That's after going through a New England winter with shrink-wrap on the cabin filter. Just don't tell my wife. {black}
I guess you liked the Kias and Hyundais more than the reliable brands. In my opinion, it doesn't mean anything related to any situation of Kias. I would leave the Kia Sorento with your wife and tell your wife to not drive it. And drive her Santa Fe.
I hope you learn your lesson here not to buy Kias and Hyundais.
Maybe it's time to get off the Hyundai/Kia bus, so to speak, after the parts are swapped.
You have a 2011 Sante Fe and a 2021 Sorento?
I think you should say goodbye to Hyundai if you can get any sort of good money for them.
Actually the Santa Fe has held up rather well. The Kia was recommended by several people so I test drove one and I liked it. It gets about 24 MPG and handles well. It replaced a 2008 Veracruz which also ran well and is still in service. The only reason I got rid of the veracruz was the V6 and it's poor gas mileage. I am priced out of the Toyota and Honda market. Even used they are way out of my league. The Kia dealers are the big problem in my area. Most are less than 5 years in business. The sales people don't know the cars and I always feel like I am talking to a moronic teenager. Hyundai's been around a little longer and the dealers are a little more mature. Of the two brands the cars are the same and come from the same factories. Hyundai changed there look a couple of years back and the styling just does not appeal to me. I have a family so I needed the third row seat. Hyundai's new Santa Fe did not have that as an option and the Palisade is just to big for me. The warranty is the same so if it breaks they have to fix it. I have had good experiences with the Hyundai service departments. I have yet to get anything from Kia so that remains to be seen. I do most of my own repairs anyway.
It is weird getting a notice that reads "minor crash hazard"
You probably should get a Mazda CX-9 if you need the third row.
Not surprised at all. Hyundai/Kia quality has been in the toilet from the very beginning. People still buy them and talk about how great they are, even while they are in the shop. "The warranty is so great." It doesn't pay you anything for your time. And every repair done at the dealer goes on the vehicle history. The resale is already extremely poor, so just imagine how bad it is with a bunch of service visits showing.
