2023-2024 HONDA CIVIC TOURING - TOP TRIM WITH 1.5 LIT TURBO ENGINE

Hello,

I just booked a 2024 Honda Civic - top touring trim with 1.5 lit turbo, here in Canada.

Is it a right choice? A lot of reports online are saying there's some oil dilution problem in the Honda's 1.5 lit turbo engine which leads to stalling. Is this 1.5 lit turbo engine reliable?

I am worried.

Please advice.

Thanks

You are kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place because most new cars these days are going turbo. And they will all have similar turbo related issues. They have to go turbo in order to meet legal emissions and mpg requirements.

Ideally, you would get a naturally aspirated car, but those are hard to come by these days.

The best thing to do when getting a turbo engine is to keep up with oil changes, maybe even do them more frequently than what is in the book.

You should have researched the Civic and its oil dilution issues before you bought it.  I would be concerned with that 1.5L turbo engine and its durability.

.

here’s some tips to mitigate the oil dilution issue:   Scotty also recommends using the GF-6 oil.

I agree with @Kaizen, on turbo engines you need to make sure to change oil more often (don't go over 5K between changes or more than 6 months).  Turbos are lubricated and cooled by the oil and it's important to keep oil clean at all times. In addition, when driving, make sure to warm up the car before using turbo and cool it down before shutting off the engine.  In other words, take it easy first several miles after starting the car and last few miles before shutting it down.  This will make turbo last longer.

No problems!  Here is the video you might want to watch about taking care of turbo charged engines

Guys, I paid $ 2000 Canadian deposit. I did not know about it honestly, till I randomly came across Scotty's videos on this problem after I booked my car.

Should I cancel it? And go for a Camry or something? I will loose my deposit, but that would save me form many headaches in future.

What do you guys think? 😥

You can try to talk to the dealer to see if they can refund your deposit.  Look at the paper you signed if it specifically states "non refundable". Some dealers would refund pre-order deposits. Depends on the dealer though.

"However, the deposit may still be refundable if the dealership cannot deliver on its promise to provide the vehicle, the price or the terms you agreed on".

PS. Civic, even with turbo charged engine is still a good car if you take care of it.  Much better than many others.

@Jvin Thanks for the reply. Nah it’s not refundable. I guess I will keep it and have to be on top of it for maintenance.
