Scotty, my 2022 Subaru Legacy Touring XT has 30,000 miles. The vehicle has a handling issue that we can not get the dealership to acknowledge. I've taken it to an independent Subaru shop also to no avail. My issue is that the vehicle has had to be re-aligned 3 times since we purchased it just under 3 years ago. I even put a nice set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4 on it, as the factory Yokohama were terrible. Each time the alignment chart showed that it was out of alignment at least a little bit. This vehicle has never experienced more than a speed bump in a parking lot, however the steering is very loose feeling, so I'm not sure what keeps causing it to essentially un-align itself repeatedly. The car wanders all over the road, plows through corners like a FWD car, (especially with any moisture on the ground), it has a slight shaky feeling at freeway speeds no matter how many times I have it balanced, & it does not track well. If you're on the freeway or going around a long corner on a country backroad you have to fight the wheel & make constant adjustments in order to maintain your lane. The steering is not soft & easy in a parking lot setting, or when parking at home, it feels very stiff & heavy. It's truly unlike any other car I currently drive or have driven in the past. It feels generally unsafe, & certainly not stuck to the road like the previous Subaru's I have owned. You can literally feel the front wheels moving a little bit one way or another while you have your hand planted on the steering wheel straight forward. You can even move the steering wheel back & forth with quite a lot of play without the vehicle responding to that. I even went as far as replacing the sway bar stabilizer links with a beefier aftermarket set that had grease filled bushings, but the dealership complained about it not being factory so I went back to the stock ones. I'm no mechanic but I am a commercial driver & like to think I know when something is not right with a vehicle. I prefer to drive my 12 year old work truck over this thing due to the way it handles. The car makes your arms tired from fighting it. The steering wheel jerks something awful when you get into a rut pulling up at a stoplight, & the tires aren't anything out of the ordinary as far as width either. (225/50/R18). They also seem to be wearing unevenly on the outside portion of the tire. This vehicle does have all the useless safety features like lane departure & pre collision braking, however I turn that stuff off when I get in it, so those things should not be playing a factor. If anything they make it seem a little better for a brief period of time, It feels nice to driver for a short time after having it aligned, but then it goes back to its old ways quickly. It doesn't feel like an electronic issue, it feels mechanical like if you had bad bearings or something. The dealership plugs in the OB reader & shines a flashlight around under the car & tells me it's fine every time. It has fairly new brakes all the way around as far as rotors & pads. I'm at a dead end with this thing, so I was hoping a legitimate expert mechanic such as yourself might have some suggestions of what I could possibly due to fix this issue. Thanks in advance!
I can't parse that dense block of text for all the details, but if the car is still under warranty make the dealer do some actual diagnostics instead of a cursory examination.
@chucktobias I appreciate your input, however the dealership will not dig into anything they can not "readily identify". Meaning, they drive it, even with me in the car, & say it's fine. Therefore they have done their due diligence & will not proceed with any more diagnosis. I have been to numerous dealerships aside from just the one I purchased the vehicle at. It feels like a conspiracy at this point lol.
The symptoms remind me of a video I watched where a loose steering rack was causing strange steering issues.
@oskool I think you're spot on.
Take it to the dealer as it is still under bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Bring them for a test drive.
@imperator I have been to multiple dealerships, & they all say there is nothing wrong. I would imagine this is why they are called technicians & not mechanics at this point.

@MountainManJoe, there's no Subaru entity that's going to help out. I've owned this car for nearly 3 years & this has been an issue since early on. I've been to numerous dealerships as well as independent Subaru specialist that just want to charge a diagnostic fee & say it's fine. What it's going to take is an individual mechanic who will actually address the issue & tell me what needs replacing, then at that point I can direct the dealer on what repair needs to be done. That's why I reached out to Scotty, but I didn't realize it's just a forum for others to answer. I guess I'll have to try to find a mobile mechanic to come check it out. Thanks for you input!
Dealerships are not Subaru. Independant specialists are not Subaru. They are all independent. The dealership only stands to lose money on your visit so it's in their best interest to get rid of you. I'm talking about the Subaru company who made your car. They have to care about if their products are not safe.
