Scotty, have always like your style.  We are looking at the '23 Hyundai Venue Limited, it comes with the 1.6 Direct Injection engine.  Haven't seen any bad news on this engine when properly maintained.  Do you know any problems that might not be well known ?  If you say this is a good engine ... we'll go for it.  Thanks in advance !

There is a real upside to Hyundai and Kia's though, if you find out you don't like it and have issues, just park it for  a bit in a bad part of town. They are so easy to steal, it will be gone in no time.

Only downside is the thieves may not be able to steal it if the engine or transmission is already dead.

Before considering a Hyundai product you may want to check out the site's extensive Hyundai/Kia thread.

Do not buy a Hyundai Motor Group product under any circumstances.  See the link Chuck posted.

.

Their styling and features may be class competitive but they don’t hold up over time and getting warranty work done is not easy.  Their resale value is also not that good.

It’s better to just stick with a Toyota or Honda product.

Hyundias and Kias (Same company, same drive train) were a cheap alternative to the more expensive brands like Honda and Toyota. The problem has been people who by a cheap car neglect the maintenance. You have to change the oil and fluids religiously. I have had a few and gotten good service out of them. They typically last 100 thousand miles or 10 years before they start to fall apart if taken care of. They have had a lot of recalls the last few years and a lot of engine problems but they have been fixing them. The prices have escalated to the point there is no advantage any more and the dealers are tacking on an average of $6000 to the MSRP along with $9000 in mandatory fees and gimmicks like extended warranty, wheel and Key-fob insurance. There is just no more advantage to buying one these days when you couple the high prices to the short lifespan. They have made themselves a waste of money.

Thieves are getting selective. They know the model years with the bad engines. If you have one of them it won't get stolen. In fact a friend of mine tried to get his stolen. He parked it in a bad neighborhood notorious for car thefts. There were two other cars next to his. He waited a couple of days and got a call from the police: "Hay we found your car". He went to retrieve his car and found the two other cars had been stripped and were up on blocks. His was untouched. His car wasn't even worth stripping.

Not at all. Unless if you wanted to get one as a short term vehicle with it's 10 year warranty. I wouldn't think it would be as bad but as soon as it starts falling apart, just junk it and get a Toyota or Honda product instead. Other than that, I'd definitely stay away from the Venue and pretty much any other Hyundai product if I were you.
