Hello all,
My 2008 Toyota Corolla with 105,000 miles and automatic transmission cranks too long and is accompanied by a whistling noise by the fan belt after it turns on. The whistling goes away the longer the engine is on or when I drive the vehicle.
As I understand, these are two seperate issues.
I recently completed a roadtrip of about 2000 miles and the issues came up after.
The car used to have the same whistling about 6 months ago but I replaced the belt. During the 6 months the car started up well and was quiet.
Please assist and let me know if more information is needed. Thank you.
Niki
For the cracking issue, check the fuel system (pressure test the fuel filter and pump).
For the noise, check the pulleys alignments.
The mechanic switched out the battery for the cranking.
For the whistling belt, the problem is that it is only audible when you start the car in the morning or when it is cold. He said he can change the belt again (this would be the 2nd belt) to a different brand and see if that works. Or he said that it can be the tensioner pulley or idler pulley but until he can hear it he does not want to guess.
