2008 Toyota Rav4 2.4L 4cyl. 2AZFE 4WD 130,000 miles. I recently replaced my front passenger side cv axle and broke the abs sensor wire in the process. I replaced the sensor with a Seineca brand sensor off amazon for around $18. This did not reset my ABS VSC or 4WD drive lights or fix the cruise control. I then put a jumper wire between the 4 and 13 pins in the OBD port and pressed the brake 8 times to reset the lights. This worked for a little while as the lights reset and I was able to use cruise control again. However, the abs system would kick in when I was braking, but only under 10mph. I attempted to sand off any rust around both front sensors mounts, clean the sensors, and clean around where the reluctor ring is inside both axles. None of these attempts fixed the abs flutter at low speed. I also replaced my brake pads after this, they were due to be replaced anyway and that went off without a hitch. Recently the lights came back on and my abs does not work again. I know the axle I replaced does have a ring for abs and is made by Cardone, which seems to be a pretty reputable manufacturer. My next move is to return the sensor I bought and get one that is a little more reputable. However, I'm not sure if it will fix that as there may be some variance between the old sensor and new one which is causing the problem. Or there could be another problem I am completely unaware of. Should I replace both front sensors or give up and take it into a mechanic? This abs complexity is driving me nuts! I live in Wisconsin and I really want to fix it before the next winter so thankfully I have some time before then.
1- don't buy cheap sensors off Amazon. You get what you pay for.
2- Check wheel bearings. Sloppy bearings will cause faulty wheel speed signals.
