Does Adaptive Cruise Control cause excessive brake wear?

Hey Scotty, Welcome to RI - I would love to have a beer with you, cause I live in Woonsocket R.I. - You are one interesting people I would have love to meet. in any case I own a 2022 Hyundai Sonata. I know you are not a fan of this vehicle but I thought I send the question anyway. My question is while using the Smart Cruise control that keeps you a a safe preset distance on the vehicle in front of you cause any more wear on your brakes or does the engine trans cause the sudden slow down because of automobiles jumping in suddenly in front of you.  Two concerns (1) Brakes to wear out a lot more earlier than normal wear and (2) possibly causing a rear end collision on your rear because of the sudden break lights.  Please your feeling about Smart Cruise control. Thanks from Mike in Woonsocket RI.

Brakes to wear out a lot more earlier than normal wear

Is your pad thickness already at the minimum amount? Is the system intervening when not required?

possibly causing a rear end collision

Is the braking force equivalent to maximum manual braking (you slamming on the brakes)?

At the end of the day, if you’re not comfortable with the system calibration from the manufacturer, don’t use it/turn it off.

You are the one behind the wheel and as such, you are responsible for how the vehicle behaves on the road.

Idk how the people in your area drive normally but if the system you got does automatic hard braking it will cause more wear over time as it is trying to keep a certain distance between vehicles, (think rubberbanding, speed slow speed slow speed slow) delayed as well instead of an automatic response. I only use smart cruise on my camry during road trips through long stretches of road. Any short trips I actively avoid smart cruise cause Cali drivers are all almost always aggressive lol

Thanks Bruce !

Just another electronic nightmare guaranteed to malfunction and be incapable of being fixed, and especially after the collision damage.

I doubt it's meant to be use in busy stop-and-go traffic.

Ya Think !

right ... so do you experience a lot of braking on the freeway? I didn't think so.
