Automatic Transmission Fluid Leak

Hello Scotty, I have a 2003 Honda Accord 4 Cylinder Automatic Transmission with 208K miles that is leaking transmission fluid onto the ground. From what I see it is saturating the bottom of the car with transmission fluid which then builds up enough to form two dots of fluid onto the ground below the car soon after driving it. I took it to a local mechanic and he said it was, "the transmission carrier bearing that is bad causing excessive axle movement and causing the seals to leak fluid. Needs transmission $3500.00". Do you have to replace the whole transmission as he said if the transmission carrier bearing is bad? If so, is that a high price for a transmission for that car? Thanks for the help!

does that price include labour?

I do not think it does include labor.

The transmission price sounds about right. You're looking at around $5k after all is said and done.

Ahhh, does the car shudder/vibrate? Do you hear any weird noises? Cause that's what that part is supposed to do when it go kaboom. It is possible with the milage on the car, idk how you drive it after all. 3500 is reasonable for a new trans replacement I think. At least here in cali I've seen more expensive lol. I'd say get a second opinion if you ain't hearing anything or feeling anything weird with the car. Could just be the pan gasket bad so it's leaking, if it's never been done before.

The car does not shudder or vibrate and I do not hear any weird noises. The car drives fine and the transmission seems to shift perfect, it rides very smooth. I was thinking why would I need to replace the whole transmission if there seems to be nothing wrong with the one I have on the car and the only thing it is doing is leaking. I have had the car since 2018 and have not had the pan gasket replaced so that very well could be it like you mentioned.

Yeah, it's unfortunate, but that's how things be. Get that second opinion at another shop. My bet is on the pan gasket goin bad since the car from your description is perfectly fine. Since it be a 2003 you can also check the trans dipstick while the car is running to see if it is low since it seems to be a daily leak I assume? Get that Honda ATF if need be.

Will do! Thanks for the help!
