Avalon OBD problems

I had recently gotten a 2000 Toyota Avalon with 170,000 miles on it. Everything runs  perfect, but I had gotten a check engine light. My scan tool tried to connect to it for a minute but then said it couldn’t link to the car. I checked the fuse and it’s perfect, there’s power going to the obd port since the scan tool runs off the power from the car. I’m at a loss here, any suggestions?? My scan tool is an Ancel AD310 if that helps at all.

Thank you guys for the answers, new scanner finally came in and worked perfectly.

So it was your old scanner which was broken?

Surprisingly the old one works fine with my other cars, just doesn’t communicate at all with my Avalon.

Try another scanner. If it does the same, the car ECU might have an issue.

Check the battery in your scanner.

So to be clear the obd port does not even power the scan tool on and you have checked lower at the port? If it doesn’t have power to the port to be safe I would check all fuses and after that you would need a schematic of the system to find where your loss of power is

Oh no there is power going to the scanner, that’s the confusing part to me. It powers on and tries to connect for a solid minute but says “can’t link”.
