Battle of the Full-Size Luxury SUVs

I purposely created this poll without any Japanese brands or European Brands. We all know that Toyota is far superior in quality but lately that has been the answer to a LOT of these questions. "You Should've bought a Toyota," "None of them. Toyota is better." Please utilize this poll on what AMERICAN branded SUV you would buy with quality aside and comment why you would choose the one you did. Thank You for your participation.

Here's a Scotty style title for your poll: "If you buy this 10 speed transmission, you're stupid!"

I think I would rather walk, then spend $90,000 (starting price) on that Jeep monstrosity.

Haven’t we already been here before?

By other people. I created this poll to get other opinions out. This website was made to help, and promote ideas between everyone. Frankly, I've seen more and more people just replying with "oh get a Toyota" or "a Toyota wouldn't break down that much" or "piece of junk, should've never bought that." I don't know if they are just uneducated kids or people that have no idea how to fix their own car. It has been very annoying for anyone that just wants help with their car problems. Not a rant on how they purchased the wrong car
Thanks

@carguy24
Your post isn't about helping people fixing American cars. It's about BUYING them. So the best advice we can give is to just not buy one in the first place. Like Scotty keeps on saying in his videos ... "People need to start voting with their money, and stop buying these crappy cars."

I’ll just add that this website (and members) has never shy’d away from helping members with any car make & model, and from different regions of the world. We’ve got questions about oddball Chinese makes, Malaysian makes and some members who are located in Nepal, Africa and other exotic locations. To quote Scotty, we are here to help everybody with their car troubles. It doesn’t matter if you own/drive a GM, Hyundai, BYD, Suzuki, Saab, etc.

Thank you, @inthrustwetrust. I was thinking the exact same thing. Scotty and the members on this forum are very good about helping people with their car problems, no matter what they drive. Yes, we will inform visitors if a vehicle was poorly made, because we don't want them to make another mistake, especially if they are asking for purchasing advice. But we never leave people high and dry, so if somebody gets missed then please point it out.

Well said @mountainmanjoe

None of the above.

Thanks for your "thoughtful" answer...

You're welcome.  I'm quite sure somebody else will come back and expound on why all these vehicles are overweight baskets of technological junk that nobody wants or needs.

Here's a "thought" for you, go to the following website -
https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-release/2021-us-tech-experience-index-txi-study where you can see that 61% of the people don't use and don't want 50% of the electronic crap the manufacturers put on new cars.

you do realize that every car manufacturer is going towards this technology. We as a society are not traveling back in time, we are going forwards. In a consumer market, every single car manufacturer out there is attempting to bring something to the plate that the others don't. It is a competitive market and it would be very stupid for any automaker to NOT bring any new innovations to the plate. By the way, page 404 NOT FOUND

Dear Carguy24,
If you are truly interested in bloated vehicles that generally break down minutes after the warranty expires, have at it. To look up the survey I quoted google JD Power TXI Study.

When companies come out with "innovations" which make vehicles LESS reliable, and break down SOONER, then I would call THAT going backwards.

What is the point of this thread?  Are you actually going to buy any of these vehicles?  Otherwise, it’s pointless to ask us what we would buy.  Personally, if I wanted any of those vehicles I would just lease it and return before the warranty expires.  None of them should be bought and kept outside of the warranty period.  That being said, under a lease, get whichever one you like the most.

It's a completely pointless question. Spend close to 6 digits on an SUV, and just ignore quality and reliability??? Carguy must be a billionaire.

@mountainmanjoe maybe he wants to become a millionaire..?

Just blindly looking at the SUV’s, knowing nothing about their engine history, transmission history, and going by general brand quality, I would go Ford (Lincoln) > GM (Cadillac) > Stellantis (Jeep).

2

They are all fancy luxury American SUVs and as they age they will become endless money pits. If I had to pick, I would go Navigator > Grand Wagoneer > Escalade. Otherwise, you should probably look into a Lexus LX or Land Cruiser (the same car but the Lexus is more dressed up in leather and luxury).

2

Now to take a look at it from an engine technology perspective.

I believe the Navigator uses a turbo, and the Grand Wagoneer and Escalade are naturally aspirated.  The latter two are simpler.

Unless I am mistaken, the Grand Wagoneer and the Escalade also use pushrods, which is simpler in design.

Taking natural aspirated and the simplicity into account, for potential reliability of the engine, I would look at (Grand Wagoneer / Escalade) > Navigator.

Granted, I know NOTHING about the actual reliability. This is just talking from a complexity or simplicity POV.

I wouldn't touch anything with the 10 speed transmission. I even drove the Ford Expedition (same but cheaper) and it drove horrible. The Jeep is the only option that is considerable. Also to put in note, it hasn't been out that long yet.

With that said, I see way more limo companies use Escalades, so take that for what it is worth.
