Buying a new car that has been setting on the dealer's lot for two years

Hello Scotty,

I hope you are well. I am an expatriate who lives in Saudi Arabia. I found a new 2021 79-series LandCruiser for sale with a steep discount. Should I buy a new vehicle that has been setting on the dealer's lot for a couple of years? And if I decide to buy it, is there anything special I should do after buying such a vehicle? (e.g., change fluids even before breaking in the engine, etc.).

Thank you very much,

Bill

Why was it sitting for so long? Any damage to it?

Nothing wrong with it. It is common to find this kind of vehicle (e.g., LandCruiser 79 series, Nissan Safari, etc.) sitting on the dealers' lots for a couple of years because it is a niche market. They are old-school and very basic gas guzzlers. However, they are very, very reliable. Hence, they are usually used by NGOs, mining companies, farmers, and offroad enthusiasts.

You are kinda lucky that you have an opportunity to buy a 79 series Land Cruiser. We never got these in the United States. Anything from 7x series would probably reliable, it’s one of Toyota’s longest running models.

Yes, I am lucky Smile

@BillAz So, did you buy it?

Not yet. I made an appointment with a mechanic to visit the dealer with me to check fluids and parts that might go bad from sitting still all this time.

I’ll let you guys know if I end up buying it.
