Car would not start because of Brake Booster?

Hi Scotti

I have a 2021 Kia Sorento with about 20 thousand miles on it. Up until now have not had any problems. Last week it would not crank when I pushed the start button. Had it towed to the dealer. Turned out to be the brake booster. They changed it under warranty and now it's fine. The cashier at the dealer could not elaborate other than what was on the receipt.  No warning lights came on. Used my scan tool and there were no trouble codes.

Why would the brake booster prevent starting?

A failed brake booster would be a massive vacuum leak. (In fact a friend of mine had his car stop dead in the middle of the road when his booster suddenly failed.)

Other than that in modern cars everything is connected to everything else. It's quite possible the computer would not start the car due to a brake system fault either by design or due to buggy software.
