Cleaning cast pistons with Scott guard Green pads.

Good morning restoring 1997 Honda civic dx hatchback d16y7 engine 1.6 sohc ,in replacing  the head gasket I started cleaning the top of the pistons  with Scott guard  green pads to remove carbon after cleaning up I pour oil inside all four cylinders and notice small air bubbles ? I asking is this piston ok to use? Are should  I go  a head  and replace them,I race air cool Volkswagen back in the day and seen nothing  like this  what your response  on this ??? Scotty love your info on

I would use the finer, red scuff pad, not the green.  Too coarse.


Good day after cleaning off the carbon build up using air blow carbon away to keep cyl from rusting I pour lite oil like transmission fluid inside the cyl where the piston are fill with this keep piston rings loosen and becoming stuck in Groves are landans after pouring about six ounce of fluid per cyl I notice small air bubbles coming to the top, like trap air inside the cast piston auto tech ase master till I retired racing air cool Volkswagen after racing ten time in month I do tear downs inspection if the look good I clean the piston with the scott green pads re-install go back racing.

Removing the carbon is good, however I'm thinking you have to be careful to not allow fine pieces of broken off carbon slide down the cylinder walls and load up the rings with grit.

I'm not following what you are referring to with the oil having air bubbles in the cylinders.

Same comment I told Doc after racing ten time month I do inspect the piston and valves that a must in racing air cool engine pulling the head off my civic replacing the head gasket clean up top of the piston used air blow to get dirt etc. I pour fluid down the cyl from rust that when I noticed small air bubbles never seen any thing like this that why am asking is this normal .?

waste of time. Just take it for a good Italian tune-up.
