- Hello Scotty and everyone wanted to ask a question looking at two vehicles at a dealership both 2017 one being CRV-EX with 63k on the clock(FWD) and a HRV-LX with 21k on the clock also FWD which one is the better option to go with both priced around 19k
I’d go with the CRV.
CRV or HRV (...) both 2017
Definitely go for the CR-V.
The HR-Vs made during that period (2016-2020) had transmission issues with its CVT.
The car you're looking at is a 2017 so it's running out of Honda's warranty extension.

The MSRP on a new CVT tranny is $7,906.86 and you'll be also billed ~5.4 hours of labour (at over $100 a hour) and also this doesn't include all other expenses like an alignment or automatic transmission fluid.
So basically if this problematic tranny blows up after warranty, it totals this car - avoid it.
Besides the HRV also does not score 5 stars in the NHTSA crash tests,
And in the IIHS it doesn't get a good ratings in all categories...
So yeah it's a small, cheap, car with known issues and a mixed safety rating...
both priced around 19k
What? That's almost brand new Toyota Corolla money for a 5 year old budget Honda?
The MSRP of a brand new Corolla is like $22k...
Alright thanks for the info I know the low mileage is eye catching but after ready what you I’ll probably side with CRV
I'm not a particular fan of the CR-V, but it's definitely a much better car.

I would try to find one with a 2.4L engine (some regions had it with a 1.5L that was way too small)
and I would defiantly service the CVT fluid immediately after purchase.

Also, make sure you have full coverage against theft, this car is in the top 5 most stolen cars in the US.
